Does Citalapram combat the craziness of tamoxifen?

hi, starting to clutch at straws now and wondering whether citalapram maybe the answer to the deep awful depression/manic/rage effects of tamoxifen?

Any advice greatfully recieved!

(Im 35.Been on tamoxifen for 2yrs (on and off ). Now 3yrs since dignosis of grade 3 bc, had the works.)

Give it a go. I’m on sertraline because I didn’t think citalopram did it well enough for me but some people get on great with it. and it’s great for the flushes.

Evie, Citalapram in my view was a life saver. I could not stop crying over christmas, didnt want to get out of my bed. Had the most severe depression, mood swings, hot flushes. I was pointed in the direction of an article by Jenifer Saunders and what she said was identical to how I was feeling and then she took Citalapram and felt normal again. I was told it would take two to three weeks to feel better, but in reality in four to five days the mood lifted and I felt like me again. Its a wonder drug in my view. I really really dont think I would have been able to continue tamoxifen the way things were. I was literally a hormonal, raging, depressed crazy women. As I write this I feel calm and back to my old self.

I am another lady on Citalapram. I fought against taking AD’s for ages but i wish I’de started sooner. I feel much more like my old self now and don’t get the horrible uncontrolable surges of anger and aggression i was having before. i think my family would agree i’m a nicer person now and I feel more in control. It dosen’t work for everyone but it is worth a try.
cheers
Caroline,

Hi just seen this post and will add my experience. My GP had put me on citalopram when I found it difficult on return to work. I later started my tamoxifen and my onc asked my GP to change me to venlafaxine as there was some research suggesting that citalopram ‘could’ compromise the effectiveness of the tam. She stressed that there was no firm evidence, just some research findings. However, she would prefer me to come off it.

another one on citralapram and tam. wish i had done it sooner than i did. i also went for cbt therepy to help with the new panic attacks.

I started taking citalopram for the hot flushes which were driving me crazy. I was waking up so often at night I could no longer function, and thought I would either have to stop tamoxifen or give up work. Citalopram brought the flushes down to a level I can cope with. However, I have also noticed that I am a much calmer person than I have ever been before which I am putting down to the citalopram. We have been having major building work done at home, and all the builders have commented on how unfazed I am by the whole process. Apparently I am one of their most chilled clients ever!

Hey. Have just been put onto citalopram as suffering horrendous anxiety attacks and crying all the time. Didn’t even think it could be because of the tamoxifen until now as these have hit me really hard and I have struggled so badly which is not like me. Hoping that they make a difference and quickly
