Hi claspe

I had a double mastectomy in 2022 (stayed flat). Following that, I had some bulkiness at each ‘armpit end’, but most troublesome was the bump in the centre of my chest between the two ‘central ends’ that was being rubbed sore by all clothing.

As it happened, I then needed an axillary clearance following the detection of one node with advanced involvement. I asked my surgeon to ‘tidy me up’ during that surgery. He did a great job, particularly where he excised the central bump and closed the new incision with zigzag stitching, which allowed the edges to be drawn together flat. The only knock-on effect was that, because he was opening up the original incisions at the outer edges of my chest beside my armpits, those areas did develop pinker, wider, bumpier scars (hypertropic / keloid scarring). I can live with those more easily than bulky or sore dog-ears :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Good luck :hugs:

Thankyou Mistyk that sounds promising I have a bulky lump where my cleavage would have been and lots of bulk under my armpits so I’m keeping everything crossed for a better outcome  xx

Good luck with your op Claspe. Hope you get a great result and it resolves your issues with no further need for any more surgery xx

Hope your surgery went ok Claspe and you’re pleased with the results. Xx

Hiya Susynight

Surgery went to plan and after changing my dressings on Sunday it looks like a pretty good job. Still quite sore and left scar is a bit weepy but not infected. Scar in middle is sorest when I bend forward but bearable.

Thanks for checking on me and how are you doing? Xx

Thats great to hear and let’s hope its onwards and upwards from now on. Hope the recovery continues to go well.

Im good thanks. I have surgical review coming up in July. My boobs are like little and large so not quite sure hether to just accept it going forwards or ask what can be done. More surgery isnt appealing.

I had a few months break from the hormone therapy and felt so much better. The oncologist has asked me to give them one more try so im 4 days in but I can feel the side effects returning so doubt I’ll stay on them! Xx

Umm I was reluctant to put myself through more surgery but I was really unhappy with the dog ears and tbh it wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be.

Im 100% with you on the hormone blockers they really dont do you any favours especially with your long term health, we need our hormones for cardio health, bone health and mental health and there is a massive misconception that our hormones cause breast cancer thats just not true!!!

Yeah the predict tool says I only have small percentage of benefit from the treatment. I just want to get back to normal! X
