I am 7 weeks post bi mx with LD recon and am recovering really well. I’ve had a little trouble with fluid build up in my back (seroma) which has been drained twice but when I went for it to be checked today, it was decided that it no longer needed draining. I mentioned the flabby swelling I have on my right side at the bottom end of by back wound (as I thought it was part of the seroma and would have gone away as the fluid drained) and she referred to it as a ‘dog ear’ and that my PS would most likely discuss removing it surgically. Does anyone have any experience of this please that they could share?

Jill I’ve got a “dog ear” post my mastectomy but haven’t had any recon.
It’s been explained to me as a fat pad which sometimes becomes prominent after surgery when you are upright because they do the operation when you are laid down and don’t want to remove too much and make your scar too tight.
hope that garbled chemo brain explanation made sense.
. I’m 6 months post op and it has reduced slightly but is still present.
My BCN has said this can be removed under local so this is what I will be doing.
Orchard you sound exactly like me!
Except mine is only right side. I have had fluid build up and had thought this swollen bit on my side was fluid filled but then they referred to it as a dog ear and surgeon might remove it later. I did see the surgeon since and he made no mention of removing it and instead said it should flatten by itself.
I am only 3.5 weeks post op tho and it does already look much better than two weeks ago.
Hopalong thank you. That’s explains it for me a bit better. They had just said to me it’s where the skin was pulled too tight.
Thank you all for the information, that’s what I love about this forum!
I will mention it to my PS in June if it’s still noticeable.
I was telling some friends about it the other evening Nd said that I’d heard all PS’s are all perfectionists at heart and will do whatever until you/ they are happy with the outcome. One friend said, “you could mention the wrinkles round your eyes”!!! Worth a try???
Lavenders blue I’m the same. I thought I’d be ok too. As was told it is mainly ladies on the larger side. Mine just sits on the side of my bra cup. The rest of my scar is fine.
