Dog walking 15 days post op

Hi I had a wide excision lumpectomy and sentinal node biopsy 15 days ago.I am healing well and doing my exercises.I have 2 dogs a cockerpoo and a Cocker Spaniel. Can you please tell me when I can walk them ? I normally walk them together on a single lead .Many thanks

Hi there. Glad you are healing well. I was out walking day 2 after same operation, although not with two doggos! I guess if you hold the lead in other hand and take a short walk you will be ok, but after 2 weeks you should have decent movement and strength in the side from the surgery. I’d say try it and see how you get on. Obviously, if it is too much, return home and rest. Keep doing your exercises.

Good luck

Hi @boo1

I had the same operation as you and have two cavachons. I started walking them after a couple of weeks but seperately so they weren’t pulling on my bad arm and I could pick up there little presents they were doing without impacting my bad arm.

I would say see how you feel, try it but take someone with you in case there is a problem
or it’s painful and don’t go to far first time.

Take care

Hi boo1

Thank you for posting.

It sounds like you are doing well and continue with the exercises. As @bluesatsuma and @chillout365 mention it may be ok to start walking the dogs. You could hold the lead in the other hand or if they pull, you may find it easier to walk them separately to start with, gradually increasing the distance.
