Don't Think Cold Cap For properly

Had my first chemo today with cold cap. It felt really.cold on top and sides bit not so cold at back. Kept asking nurse to check and she said all way ok as long as it was covering hair line. I’m worried I’ve suffered 3.5 hours for nothing. Any advice? Thanks Helen xx

Hi, I worried at a couple of sessions that around the hair line around the back of neck didn’t feel cold. It must have been as I lost no hair from round there, so you should be ok.

Don’t worry or panic if you start loosing some hair it’s normal. Mine has thinned but I still have 50/60 % of my hair and new hair has also grown.

Take care & good luck

Ann xx

Thanks for the reassurance Ann. Would hate to have suffered for nothing. Lots of ladies weren’t bothering today as it felt wierd watching people come and.go while I just sat there. Helen x

Ann. Can I ask how often you washed your hair? And did you use a hairdryer at all? My hair has a.mind of its own if I don’t use a dryer!!! Lol. Helen xx

I finished chemo a few weeks ago, 4 FEC , 4 T - cold cap not so tight on top of head and lost most from this area quite thin on top, however back, crown and sides ok, didn’t need wig and wearing headband to cover thin bit. I didn’t wash it after chemo for 2 days and for the first couple of cycles washed it weekly… Then as it didn’t seem to need washing only washed it once every three weeks!!! Used headband with cold cap definitely a help, used dry shampoo if it looked lifeless and a tiny bit of hair oil on the ends as it seemed to get really dry. Used topik to hide thinning area which really helped…it worked for me, someone at work today said they liked my headband and asked if I had lost some hair!! They were either being kind or it not too bad after all!!! Stick with it xx
