hey all, here’s my back story… 2017 my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer and later found she has the PALB2 gene. since then she’s had a double mastecomy and got the all clear last week and discharged from the breast unit! ?
me and my older brother do carry the PALB2 gene as well, I’m 38 and a single mum to a 14yr old boy and last week ( the same day my mum got the all clear!) I opted to have a double mastecomy without reconstruction as a preventative measure as I don’t want my son going through what I did with my mum at a later date in my life.
the way I’m seeing it is I need my life to see my son grow up, I don’t need my boobs.
I was wondering people’s opinions and wanting to hear from people who may have opted for preventative surgery.
thank you for reading
Hi!
I have had 2 mastectomys, as they found cancer in both breasts, one a month after the other! I am also living flat. Do you know about the facebook group flat friends? It’s for people without reconstruction.
I’ve not had the genetic testing yet, am waiting to hear from them, but as my aunt has had breast cancer 4 times (in both breasts) I suspect it is genetic, even if it’s not one of the current genes they test for.
Am very happy living flat, only get foobs out for special occasions
