I would just like some advice from the ladies out there.
I was diagnosed late Aug with Invasive DC grade 3 with node involvement, and it looks like mastectomy for this. I am due to start 6 months of chemo on Wed 9th Oct, followed by surgery.
I have had MRI, CT and bone scan and there is no spread to other areas.
However the MRI did highlight some odd areas in the other breast, so had biopsy done, and found small area DCIS . Not sure of grade etc, not much said about it to be honest. Maybe because starting chemo they hope this will help??
However as BC runs in my family - have lost both sister and an Aunt on mum’s side to BC, and now that have it in both sides I want to push for double mx. I am 47 not sure if this makes a difference or not.
What do you think??
It seems either really bad luck to have both sides affected or more sinister - anyone else been in this position?
I have completed a form that may lead to genetic tests if I am deemed to be at risk.
Also if you go to the ‘Talk to people like me - younger women and families’ forum (purple box) this will bring you to the area of the forums where this is discussed. You could also put a search for family history in the search box at the top of this page - next to the Please Donate tab.
Hi cs1, I was diagnosed on the 18th September and are booked in for a double mx with reconstruction on the 14th October. I’m 46 and BC runs on my moms side. I have invasive lobular cancer which is 14mm in 1 breast but I’m not taking any chances and having both removed. I understand that for some women this is a hard decision but for me it’s a ‘no brainer’. Sending hugs at this difficult time XXX
Hi cs1, my consultant was brilliant. He offered me a lumpectomy which I flatly declined. He asked me why I wanted a double mx so I explained how I’d always be wondering, panicking whether if it would return. He backs me 100% and referred me to the oncoplastic surgeon. As my right breast is healthily I do need to see the councillor tomorrow just to cross the T’s and dot the I’s as a surgeon can’t just remove healthy tissue without a good reason. I would express your concerns with your consultant, the overall choice is yours. Good luck XXX
Yes thank you I am feeling really good, no sickness at all and have cleaned the house today. Hopefully it will stay that way.
The cold cap was fine too, no brain freeze as I had hot drinks the whole way through!!
So not as bad as I thought, so far anyway.
Only problem was last night, couldn’t;t sleep had heartburn everytime a laid flat, and also think the steroids I took for sickness meant I was wide awake - had about 2 hrs sleep!!
Then got up this morning and had what I can only describe as if I had been out in the sun too long. On my chest and up my neck, doesn’t hurt but it is hot. Called them and they think it may be a reaction the the steroids, glad I only have a couple more to take.
