Hi all,
I was first diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago. I spotted the lump very early on and opted for a double mastectomy to reduce my risk as much as possible. I had a few of my lymphnodes taken and tested & as these were clear I was told i didnt need any further treatment apart from tamoxifen.
Two years on after all my reconstruction, I recently felt pain under my arm and after more scans & bioposies it was confirmed the cancer was in my lymphnode. I have recently had a lymphnode clearance and luckily it was only in one of the 15 they have taken. I just wish they had taken them all the first time and i wouldnt be in this position now, but I cant change this so need to not focus on what has happened i guess…
This time i’m starting chemo in a few weeks along with injections to switch my ovaries off temporarily.
I have an appointment with a fertility specialist on weds as I have no children but would like to in the future.
I just wondered if anyone out there could give any advice and if its worth freezing my eggs? is there a high chance this will even work? also frightened about them having to pump me with hormones to produce the eggs in the first place as my cancer was hormone responsive
Or maybe having the injections to stop my ovaries will protect them from the chemo?
Any help or guidance would be great, i’d also be happy to help anyone who may be having a mastectomy & the reconstruction - I’m very happy with mine!
xx

Hi princesswarrior
I am having prostap injections to shut Down my ovaries during Chemo. I opted to not have egg harvesting as it would have pushed back my treatment times. The fertility place will give you lots of info in that respect.
Egg harvesting and the artificial menopause is very common in women with BC also you’ll be glad to know that the injection stops as much estrogen getting into your body as its shutting down the ovaries so that can only be a good thing.
Its always better to look back in hindsight but you and your doctors did what was right at the time two years ago.
I’m 24 so another yougun going through this crap too!!! Xx
Hi Princesswarrior. I am sorry I can’t help with your question. I hope you don’t mind me asking how many lymph glands did they take originally? I have only had ten removed now and am worried they haven’t removed enough.

Thank you. It doesn’t really answer my question tho but also I don’t want to hijack the thread. I had a snb where two nodes were removed and one was micro bit positive. I am confused why the surgeon then thought it was ok to only take ten more and not do a full clearance.
catokitty are you not having chemo then?
I think I am going to ring the helpline tomorrow. I have so many questions!
