Hi, I am 11 days post mastectomy with implant recon. I had drains removed today. There was noticeable hard lumps around the implant when I had dressings on but I was told this was the drains. On having them removed today I can still feel some lumps. I can also feel the edge of the implant & have this almost like empty pocket of skin to the top of the breast near my armpit. The breast looks very bumpy & mishaped & feels like a lead balloon. I’m not sure what I was expecting but I guess not this. Is this normal?
@liz9 firstly, well done for getting this far with your surgery as we all know this is not a walk in the park.
Pleased to read your drains are out as regards to your lumps, I’m thinking this is still very early days, hopefully this is a healing process, if your still concerned in a few days call your breast cancer nurse for a chat.
I do hope you will be more comfortable very soon, wishing you well with health and happiness ahead.
A very happy new year to you. With hugs Tili ![]()

Hi there
I had an implant reconstruction mid June and can remember pretty much exactly the same. My drain was in longer - nearly three weeks and the area around the drain was lumpy and hard for a while. My implant was also very high and I could definitely see the top. At 6 months, I now feel I have a good shape and it all seems successful (in implant terms!). In fact, the outcome is better than I expected after reading all the cons around implants.
Of course, we are all different but thought I would let you know my own experience. Best wishes to you x
