Hi Sue
I had a little bit of this (also no drain) but it didn’t happen again after the dressing came off. I was told to have warm water washes morning and night until the scars healed. I didn’t wear a bra at all for the first week then went to a soft sports bra. Had to go buy one though as needed totally different size due to swelling. I also “Hugged” but found wearing a fleece that was fairly well fitted helped to keep me in place when I was out and about. Oh and walking slowly helped too!

Hi Sue, I remember having a little worry over my dressings post op. I phoned my breast care nurse who told me to call in and she had a look. So why not phone your nurse. I found that nothing was too much trouble for them. Good luck and hope you are recovering well…

Hi Sue,

I would agree about contacting your BCN to put your mind at rest. I am sure it will be nothing to worry about.

I had WLE and ANC in September, then mast and recon 5 weeks ago, so I understand about your concern and discomfort.

It is difficult to know what to wear. I found close fitting vest tops gave a little comfortable support, and then moved to the ‘secret support’ types when my underarm felt more comfortable. I also wore some soft, crop top style bras (very cheap, from Primark) which were good. (The very expensive post-op bra I went and bought specially was not comfortable at all and never got worn…!)

But I also did a lot of the hugging/carrying my boob for a while!

Hope things get easier and more comfortable for you soon

hi everyone, right ive removed dressing and am wearing a soft sports bra(£2.00 from primark) and have been wearing vest tops with the inner support since the op(again 1.90 from primark) ive covered the sterisrips with a soft breast pad to prevent chaffing while walking, ive been around urmston town now for the last 2 hours - great to get a bit of fresh if cold air. not had any weeping from the said spot so i think it must have just been straight after the op but ill keep an eye on it.

I wore a bra at night time too to stop them rolling everytime i turned over. most op sites you can immobilize to let them heal quicker and easier, but not your boobs!! Also had to get a couple of cup sizes larger to house the swollen side and without wires too, as i found these dug in! Good luck - you are sounding more comfortable now!!!

Hi Tippy,
did you have your op at NMGH? I had mine there, same op as you, on 6th Nov. I was told to take the dressing off after 5 days amd keep the sterristrips on, but they fell off anyway after a few days. it took me 2 weeks to wear a bra, but I bought some support PJ tops from M&S which are camis and comfy. You do need to support the boob in the first few weeks. I often walked around holding mine! Unfortunately I also got pre-menstrual 5 days after my op and my boobs go like bricks and are very tender so it was a double whammy!

I use a bath for pain releif so at first I just soaked my bottom half, but once the dressing was off and I could see that the wounds were well healed-about 10 days- I soaked as normal and use bio oil/aloe vera gel .
I bought strile Melolin dressings to cover the op sites and stop my clothes rubbing, but after a few hours it was and still is back to my soft nightie!!

hi knotnut, no hun i was at salford royal(the old hope hosp)im ost menopause so didnt have your double whammy thanks god. mine really are not that swollen had a sports bra on today for approx 6 - 7 hours then they were aching
