Drowsiness - solved

Hi everyone,
Over the last 3 weeks or so I’ve felt extremely sleepy in the evening, usually having to go to bed about 8pm for a few hours and almost dropping off in the afternoon at work. I assumed it was the gabapentin although after a drop in dosage I still had same problems. However, I remembered that at the same time that I started gabapentin for nerve pain I also started a new anti nausea pill - metoclopramide (reglan) Checked side effects and main s/e was drowsiness. Stopped taking it today and so pleased to find I’m back to normal and not too nauseous either. The lesson is if you’re really drowsy try different anti emetics. Best wishes xxx

Hi waffles

I took metaclopromide (sp?) when I first started Cape as I felt I would have nausea having suffered badly with it when I had FEC. Boy, was I spaced out, tired ie could hardly drag myself around in the daytime let alone stay up till the evening! Like you I was convinced it was the other meds (Cape) causing this. I happened to read on this forum another lady having exactly the same spaced out feelings on the drug and put 2 and 2 together, stopped the drug and the side effects stopped immediately. Luckily I didn’t feel nauseous on Cape, it was all in the mind, so didn’t need to take anything. However when I had docetaxel in 2014 I made sure I wasn’t prescribed it and took something else which have no side effects. If you read the less likely side effects from metaclopromide ie 1 in 100 it is listed as quite a severe reaction to the drug.

Glad you’re feeling better though.

Hi Nicky,
I’ll never take it again. Wow, did I feel knackered. I had even experienced really weird jerky movements a couple of times in the last three weeks which is also a side effect apparently. I never thought such an innocuous drug as this could cause such weird s/e when I have next to no problem on Cape. Looking forward to being able to watch telly in the evening without passing out. . xxx
