dry mouth and heartburn

Hi all

Started chemo last Friday, I am doing fine but has anyone got any tips for me on a dry mouth and heartburn during the night.

I seem to be able to sleep for a little while but wake up with a very dry mouth and heartburn which is keeping me awake.

Thanks for any tips.

Hi, I also was truobled with this, fresh pinapple certainly helped with dry mouth and sores.
Warm milk just before you go to bed or hot chocolate helped with he heartburn, all though I am now also taking tablets daily for this, if it persists have a word with your ONC he should be able to prescribe meds for you…

Hi Teresa

Thanks for your tips, I will try these tonight. When I have my next chemo I will speak to ONC about this.

Hi Anne

I also have trouble with heartburn during the week after chemo. My onc prescribed Omeprazole which eases it completely for me. Although I am fed up of taking tablets, I figure that there’s no point suffering needlessly - we have enough to put up with.
Like Teresa says, give your oncology unit a call - I’m sure they’ll be able to help.

I was also prescribed Ommprazole and it seemed to work really well.
For the mouth I found pineapple painful to eat but could manage apple juice or cola. I did say to Onc that I was worried about the amount of cola I was drinking, but she said not to worry as it has some good points as well and there would be plenty of time to worry about the extra sugar when the treatment was over.

i can recommend biotene oral balance saliva replacement gel which is great for dry mouth and tastes lovely too

and like the others have said im still on omeprazole after getting horrendous heart burn on chemo.
