DVT

Found to have DVT just over 2 months ago and started on tinzaparin injections. I still have swelling in leg and foot. Have lymphoedema in arm on same side, feel abit of an oddbod. Does anyone know how long this swelling could last?

Lynne

Hi Lynne, not really the same but I developed a DVT which ended up as clot to the lung on diagnosis. I had no swelling at all in my leg and the clot was only picked up when I was having scans. I had 6 months of warfarin…hope the swelling subsides soon…x

Hi Lynne,
I was diagnosed with DVT in my left shoulder back in April. One day my left arm just started to swell up and I couldn’t straighten my arm out.I have been on daily Fragmin injections ever since. The swelling went down after a couple of days of being on the Fragmin and I got my movement back in it.My left arm is still bigger than my right but I think I have a bit of lymphodeoma in it because my I’ve got spread to my lymph glands under that arm.I believe it’s quite rare to get DVT in the arm but it does happen.

Hi.
I have been on Taxol & Avastin & Zometa for the last 6 months. For the last 6 days I have had a lot of pain in one leg at the top of my thigh which has made it very difficult to walk. 2 different doctors examined me, and one was muttering about DVT. They hope that this is muscular but tell me if it gets worse to come back.I am not sure what “worse” means.
So far there is no swelling, but it is scary.
Any comments greatfully received.
Thanks,Penny

Hi Penny…I don’t think I would want to wait and see…my dvt was picked up by scans and as I mentioned before I had no swelling/symptoms and it had travelled to my lung…not that I was aware of it…have you asked for a scan? Belinda…x

Hi

When I went to GP with swelling she refferred me to hospital as concerned about DVT. Hospital ruled DVT out after blood tests and said to go back to GP if it didn’t getbetter. Rang Onc instead a week later as swelling worse, she organised ultra sound of leg, xray, CT scan and bone sca, (i have secondaries in bone). The CT scan showed DVT (in groin I think cant remember name of vein) but not in leg where normally are. Mind you happier with DVT dx as really thought cancer on the move. Been on tinzaparin for 8 weeks changing to warfarin. My original pain in the leg felt like a pulled tendon right down leg it made it really difficult to walk.
Take care everyone.

I had a CT scan last Wednesday and my oncologist rang me at the weekend to say I had a possible blood clot in vein in my neck. I was ordered off to hospital for clexane (heparin) injections. Today I’ve also been put on warfarin tablets and have an appointment at anti coagulant clinic on Wednesday. This has all come as a bit of a shock. I haven’t seem the CT scan report yet, and don’t quite understand where or why I have this clot (described by onc as a ‘filip’ which I can’t find on the internet).

I have tumours in my neck and chest wall so don’t know if there’s a connection??? Have very bad lymphoedema too.

One more thing to worry about.

Jane

Hi Jane,
If you go on Cancer Research UK site it explains why you are more susceptible to DVT if you have cancer.
Hope this is of help.

Thanks Alli

I misheard my oncologist…it wasn’t a ‘filip’ What the CT scan actually says is ‘A filling defect, presumably thrombus is seen in the left internal jugular vein.’ Its caused probably by the swollen tumours pressing on veins…oh the things we find out.

So much they never tell us till it happens…I will take money to update every cancer site in the world on incurable regional recurrences…starting with BCC which has no information at all.
