DVT

Hi guys.
Yesterday was my 2nd FEC and my picc arm looked slightly mottled and my fingers were a bit puffy. Nothing outrageous but they decided they would scan to make sure all ok and found I have axillary/subclavian deep vein thrombosis.
I have been given anticoagulants which apparently I need to inject for the next few months, but I’m terrified I’m about to have a stroke or something at any second!
Has anyone else had this? Does it just go away? Thanks for any advice.

Hi, I haven’t had these probs so far with my chemo, but I did have a contraceptive pill induced DVT in my leg back in the 70’s. The anti-coagulants will work at gradually dissolving the DVT and you will be closely monitored. I was on warfarin for 6 months at the time, and then on Heparin as a precaution after I had given birth to my sons in the 80’s. Discuss all your fears with the team looking after you so that you are clear on what is happening, it may take some of the terror away. Take care and good luck. Barbara x x

Hi Barbara

Thanks for your reply.

I am on heparin but as you say that is preventative rather than a cure - they have told me it won’t dissolve the clot, just stop it getting worse while my body deals with it. I think that’s what worries me - my body isn’t great at doing what it should lately!

On Friday they did a CT scan as they were concerned the clot might have moved but it seems ok at the moment. I think I am just getting worked up as this is yet another SE I could have done without :frowning:

I will try to keep calmer

Thanks again,

Hi em, I have a blood clot in my lung and have been using clexane for the past 3 weeks (gosh it seems longer!!). I will be having these daily injections for the next 6 months. It is a worry, I had my chemo stopped after 4 sessions because I was so ill (not with the clot) and had only started tamoxifen and had to stop these and been changed to letrozole ( I now also need monthly injections to shut down my ovaries so I can have the letrozole) after my blood clot was discovered. Clots seem to be fairly common during treatment, but it’s still a worry none the less.

Hope all goes well for you xx
