I’d just like a bit of advice. My hair (a one inch crop) is growing back and its colour is brown and grey. How soon can I dye it and with what? Any recommendations? Also, how soon can I put mascara on my new eyelashes (they are still growing and thickening up). So glad to have some hair again - I intend to burn my wigs on a sacrificial fire!!
When my hair grew back it was grey/dark brown so was desperate to colour all the same, I used a vegetable dye from health food shop but found this was not strong enough, at 3 months I went to hairdresser and she dyed for me after doing a skin patch test, I had no problems at all and have been dying my hair for past few months with a shop bought product. My hair is now back to normal all the chemo curl has grown out after 7 months and it feels great to be back to some kind of normality in the hair department at least!!!
Mascara just used normal one although lashes were a bit stubbly to start with and kept getting onto skin - things back to normal now.
Good Luck with the hair colouring if you decide to go for it!!
My BCN said I could dye mine once it got to about half an inch, if I wanted, but recommended that I have a patch test first.
I am now getting very fluffy all over and generally it is coming back dark (although with what I call “extreme blonde” at the temples and one really cute white tufty bit over my right eye). I haven’t seen my real colour for 30 years so I think I may just wait to see what happens and maybe experiment with vegetable dye at some point. It will be nice not to worry about regrowth (in the colour sense) for a while
I am glad you brought this subject as i too wondered the very same question, my hair is now about an inch in length and very curly ( does this grow out eventually) my hair is a funny Blondie grey colour and i am now thinking i may dye it before Christmas but not really sure how to go about it. I think as some of you have said i will go to the hairdressers and have a patch test done just to be on the safe side.
I don’t really fancy having green hair or anything silly like that lol.

Thank you so much for all your comments.
I’m a hairdresser, who has a good friend who has just finished her chemo, about 6 weeks ago,and is most enthuiastic to get her new ‘do’ coloured.Embarrassing,it stumped me as what the general advice was, but,i’m plsd to say,i was on the right wave length!(excuse the pun!!)
Will take great pleasure in letting her know yr comments.
Thanks.x
Hi there
My name is Roz new to this site. My hair is just coming back after six months of chemo and then the drudge of five weeks every day of radio. I took the plunge on my own as my hair came back white white white lol, but used a shampoo in one and thank goodness was ok.
Not sure how long it will last but has made me feel better.
Best Wishes to all

Hi, I finished chemo in July and then had 5 weeks radiotherapy after that. My hair started to grow back while I was still on Tax, but only like a baby crewcut. It was also coming thru’ white which horrifed me! I know all the advice is to leave it before dying it, but I took the plunge and used Clairol Herbal Essences ‘Fearless Extra Blonde’. I only had it on for about 6-10 mins and it went a beautiful colour! It didn’t drop out or go green and it makes me feel so much better.I am so pleased that I did it.
There is so much advice out there re; diet, execise and general restricted living after breast cancer, that I feel guilty about everything I eat or don’t eat! But sometimes you have to take a risk for your own self-esteem, well-being etc. It’s bad enough losing a breast and your hair in the first place. I was fed up with looking like that poor Russian spy, then Adrian Edmunson (He who is married to Jennifer Saunders), that I just wanted to look like a girl again!! So I did it. There. I have confessed. Does that make me foolish?
Best wishes and love to all of you in the same position.
Annie xx
