early secondary liver symptoms

Hi all,

I’d be interested to hear what your early symptoms of secondary liver cancer were please. I’ve researched on the web, of course, but I know that the reality is often different to the text books cases. I’m waiting for an ultrasound scan appointment on my abdomen to explore the discomfort I’ve been feeling in my stomach, but am also concerned about dizziness that I’ve been experiencing.

I’ll be grateful to hear about your experiences.

Many thanks in advance.

Mec

Hi Mec

So sorry to hear that you’re in that horrible waiting period before a scan. I dont know if my experience with liver mets will help at all but here goes…

I was diagnosed two years ago with liver and bone secondaries. The liver mets were found after I mentioned to my consultant that I had a bad bout of gatritis. She thought I might have gall stones and referred me for an ultrasound and then an MRI to confirm the spots on my liver were cancerous and not hemangiomas (which are benign growths quite common on the liver). As it turns out the liver mets were very small and my onc said the gastritis symptoms were completely unrelated as small mets dont produce symptoms. Two years on my scans have consistently shown up chronic gall bladder inflamation that is unrelated to my cancer but explains the discomfort and pain i was feeling in my stomach at the time of my diagnosis.

There are definitely other plausible reasons for the discomfort and dizziness you have been experiencing.

I hope you dont mind me also adding that since my secondaries diagnosis I have had chemo, hormonals and a procedure on my liver mets called radio frequency ablation. Currently I have no sign of cancer in my liver and am about to run the adidas women’s 5k challenge on Sunday so please do know that even if it isnt good news there is life after a secondary diagnosis.

Wishing you cancer-free scan results,

Heather.xxx

Hi mec

As well as the support you receive from the other forum users you may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the trained members of staff on the helpline. Here you can ask questions and share any concerns you may have with someone who will offer you a listening ear as well as support and information. The number to call is 0808 800 6000 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 to 5pm and Saturday 9 to 2pm.

I hope this helps.

Hi Mec, Just seen your post and thought I’d add my two pennorth! I was dx’d in January with liver and spine mets. (18 years after inital bc when I had a mastectomy, rads and tamoxifen) It started in November last year with an uncomfortable stabbing pain in my right side. The Gp’s thought it was gallstones but unfortunately not. There were two largeish tumours and several small ones. I was terrified to say the least. However, I had taxotere for 12 weeks (should have been 18) This didn’t work particularly well so they stopped it and put me on Arimidex which I’m highly responsive to. After two months the tumour markers are way,way down and I’m feeling ok. I’m leaving to go on a two week cruise tomorrow (can’t wait) so I will check on this thread when I get back. I do hope that you will get good results and I’ll be thinking of you. Sending you lots of love and cyber hugs. Dianne x x x

Hi Tina and Annie, sorry I haven’t been in touch, but I’ve been away and busy as hell since I got back with birthdays, anniversaries etc. Annie, I’m thrilled that you had such brilliant news, what a relief. Well done.

Tina, how are you, I feel dreadful for not being in touch sooner. Please let me know how you got on, I do hope you are ok and the results were better than you anticipated.

I’m ok thanks, just problems with an abscess in my mouth which I’ve now got antibiotics for.
