Well, OH and I are amazed with the NHS yet again today.
Had fertility clinic appointment and I had an immediate scan to check for my stage in my cycle and we both had blood tests, and it looks like they can start the process of egg collection tomorrow! It looks like we just caught it in time and we’ve been squeezed in as an urgent case.
Tomorrow they’ll hopefully confirm our bloods come up clear for the various things they’re testing for (e.g. HIV) and hormone levels reflect what she saw on the scan, and then start me on ovary stimulation (I think). On Monday, OH has to go back to provide his, ahem, sample to check his swimmers out! In two weeks, egg collection and fertilization, then they freeze the embryos until we need them.
She also said she could suppress the ovaries during chemo - although there are better drugs for this than zoladex apparently.
Will find out more when I go back tomorrow, but it feels like a bit of good news finally!
I am so pleased for you both! When things seem to just get worse and worse, it is such a huge boost when you get really good news. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
Love Ann x

Yep, treatment started today with my first injection. I’m on slightly different drugs due to my natural cycle just starting and this being a fairly urgent case, so not quite going through the normal IVF process. The good thing about that is that it should be done in less than 2 weeks. I now have to inject myself daily and go back every few days for scans to check progress.
Chemo has been delayed by only one week.
Keep everything crossed that we get good eggs that fertilize well and survive the freezer!
I’m also going to get monthly injections of a drug to supress ovaries, which will probably give me mood swings! Joy! Oh well, the next few months are more or less written off anyway!
oh flora, that’s fantastic news, i’m so happy for you both. fingers and toes crossed now.
see - the nhs can be good when they want to be!!
