A year ago I had a modified radical mastectomy and my other side is DD/E or even F.
I am almost always very uncomfortable as live in a hot climate and feel very strongly that I would just like the other side removed even though my oncologist says that the chance of recurrence is .05%
Does anyone else have experience of having an evening up op?
Hiya!
I had a mastectomy this time last year. I had invasive lobular cancer with extensive LCIS in both breasts. My surgeon decided to wait to remove the other breast at a later date in case I needed chemo - which I didn’t.
Since the LCIS poses a high risk threat to my remaining breast, I am having another mastectomy next month. I also chose to have it because I feel very lop-sided and bad scarring means it’s uncomfortable to wear a prosthesis. I didn’t want reconstruction either.
Most consultants/oncs are very wary about doing a prophylactic mast. Even though he was the one who recommended it, my consultant made sure it was what I really wanted and once he was satisfied, he gave the go ahead.
Good luck whatever you decide.

I had a left hand mastectomy 15th feb as had two lumps that were cancer and had 4/12 lymph nodes cancer. Had biopsy on right as core biopsy came back
not cancer but wanted to double check it it came back cancer now have to get another op after chemo but have to decide if i just want a margin done or a mastectomy doctor told me to have a good think about it. my first instinct is to have a mastectomy but know i don’t know.

Thank you Jacki, i have been reading some research that indicates whatever you opt for you are highly likely to be satisfied with so I guess if we ourselves are convinced it should be OK at least psychologically!
All the best to you too!
i was booked in for left hand mast and axillary clearance on 20th march, but finally convinced the surgeon to give me a double mast, so surgery has been postponed. they tell me they have to be very very sure that u reallly want the other side done, becos there is no going back…i have really had to fight to get it done, becos they are very reluctant to do it. if u r really, really sure, then tell them, it might mean u have to see a phycologist, for councelling and stuff, like i did, but i got there in the end!!!
