Embarking on an adventure, you are welcome to tag along

Hi everyone again, still off work so having a leisurly breakfast sitting looking out at a clear blue sky and beautiful sunshine.

Libby in respect of my flight I did not wear a ‘sleeve’ I was worried about my arm as I have fleabitus(sp?) in my ‘good’ arm and a swelling on my wrist and my whilst my ‘bad’ arm isn’t swollen it is still stiff, tingly and seizes up! Like you there are differing advice on whether to wear a sleeve when flying. The flight was around 5 hours so I made sure I did my exercises on both arms throughout the flight to keep them flexible etc. It did work and I have no problems with them.

Vickie I agree re the hair- I too have a noticable bikini line and had to wax for my hols - its like having a beard down below! My hair is starting to come back now quite thick (still very short though) I will post a photo on here. My eyebrows - well I can’t believe the way they have come back so thick and dark and very very bushy - in fact I went and had them threaded yesterday to get some shape to them - as I was relectant to pluck them at first and they just took over my face! I have stray hairs on my chin and upper lip which I am plucking out but they are so thick and dark! I am now shaving my legs daily too - so showering is taking up more time than it did before. However underarms are still ok - I think RADS has killed my right underarm anyhow and I doubt whether anything will grow there ever again.

love to all you lovely ladies I will try and do poem too. - perhaps we should get together and produce a ‘book’ of poems’ and dedicate it to breast cancer research - It would be nice to get something really postive out of what has been a terrible experience for us all and I think would be original. Answers on a postcard! take care x saffronseed

Hello, loveley ladies.
you will be pleased to know, I am not under the duvet-YET, that will be tomorrow, even managed to sweep up some leaves this morning-losing battle with the Virginia Creeper.
Hi, Jill with a J. I have been to IOW Glass and the pearl place in the past but would rather spend my money on clothes these days! oh, and good chocolate from Chocs Away in Cowes. found a nice bead shop in Newport and another one in Ventnor, just need to get my act together as eveyone is getting home made jewelry for Christmas-apart from OH.
Isabelle, so pleased you saw a different ONC this time. I can’t wait to go to the hairdressers, my hair is coming on quite well, hope to have a trim before Christmas just to keep it even.
Vickie, totaly agree about the hair thing, though I didn’t totaly lose the body hair of eyebrows, it’s now patchy in all the wrong places! thanks for the news re the hospital, just in time for me going for RADS! I’m on Facebook but havn’t the first clue how it works. managed to get a photo on but that’s it. you and Suze seem to be the meeter uppers. count me in on the next one as long as it’s before Nov 11th and Suze doesn’t bring cats.
Jackie, a friend of ours suffers from Gout but he drinks a lot of Gin!
Saffronseed, I am also kept busy with the tweezers on the witchy moustache!
well, I’m off for my R&R now

Love Carolxx

Hi Ladies,
Well been having a good sort out! Gc toys to the local hospice charity shop, put electrical bits on freecycle, had a hairdryer l won in a raffle, never been out of the box, because l have a very good one! Not that l use it!
Anyway a man got in touch asking for it for a friend who lives in a home, she is severely autistic with learning disability, the carer came with her to collect it last week, this week l put some heated rollers!! Yes l use to sometimes curl my hair!! And also hair straighteners, he got in touch to ask if she could have them, and asked if she could come to see me again, obviously l said yes! How could you say No! l said l would sort some jewellery out, gave her lots of perfumes and creams, had so much given , ‘IF’ l lived to be 100 l wouldn’t use it all!
He said she likes soft toys, so l have been up in the loft to get a bag of teddies down for her to go through next week, was going to do a little ‘tea’ for her, my only worry is my youngest grandson, not sure he wont be ‘frightened’ of her! That sounds awful, and frightened is the wrong word! but she is very tall and very loud, and her speech is very poor, eldest gc would be very good with her, because he is very caring.
so might have to do it on a day they go out with their dad, he is taking them to a couple of museums in the holidays, they did have a holiday planned at Butlins, but dil still ill, so we have had to cancel. Sorry l haven’t said what is wrong with her, feel it is not my place to put it on here! So forgive me if l confuse you all at times!

Saffronseed, You sound like the holiday has been good for you, in fact you sound brilliant!!
Having just started my hiya teardrop this week, l decided today to start wearing my ‘softie’ thought it would be better next to my skin, rather that the prosthesis, thought that might rub a bit too much! anyway early days, but so far so good. Where in the country do you live? be lovely to meet but like Jackie said probably be on the M25 car park! Lol, probably near Watford, think that is in the middle for me and Jackie, and l ‘think’ Gill lives there or very near there! yes Gill or no Gill?

Lesley, Someone telling you porkies!! tut tut!! hope you are feeling a bit better now.

Jackie, are you joking with me? having a rest after rads! what with two little boys at playgroup and school, no chance!! in fact have you tried to play I spy with a 3 year old? he said 'l spy with my little eye something beginning with ‘L’ for Light!!! gave that up as a bad job!

Jill, you have a long journey for your hiya teardrop? how much longer? l know you said you were half way through, but is that 3 weeks or 6?
I
Isabelle, pleased you are enjoying being back at work, hope you had a good day with your grandson and daughter?
After the wait to see your onc, good job it was with one you liked!

Vickie, Yes l am on facebook too! l will be your friend! Lol
Yes, we are all good enough to be on page 3! Hairs on my nipples!! and a beard! surely not, how much more can a woman take? those pluckers! surely plucking will make it worse, or grow back coarse, well l suppose if it comes back grey we will have a job for christmas! (santa)

Carol, well l expect by the time you read this you will be popping from under the duvet! hope it is getting a bit easier, seem to spend every morning sweeping the leaves up, and before l turn round they are back again!

Maria, Hope you are having a lovely time with your family?

Elaine, Hope all is well with you, nearly ready for another!

Gill, Hope your daughter has settled in Germany? and enjoying her time there.

K, Did you have a nice big smile on your face today? hope you enjoyed it?

Tracey Hope you are ok, and ready for your next one?

Kanga, Lost in space?

Anne, Hope all is well with you, another one due next week?

Heather, Quite my dear! or are you busy doing a poem!

Toby the tortoise came out of his home and buried himself in the garden, so l covered him with a cloche, and put straw either side, will have to seek advice as to whether to leave him there or move him, he spits at me when l move him! such a rude tortoise, has buried himself so much l had to dig him out to make sure he was still there!
Hugs and Love to one and All

Oh dear, more bad news :frowning:
My daughter (she’s out in Germany as part of her degree course) is in hospital with appendicitis. Going to have an operation tomorrow morning. Husband on the internet booking a flight out there, not the best timing as it’s half term so many are fully booked and the remaining are really expensive. He had an op a couple of weeks ago for a suspected tumour, fortunately surgeon thinks all is ok but waiting on biopsy results.
It never rains but it pours :frowning:

Oh Gill,
Your poor daughter, bad enough being in this country without your family near, but to be in a ‘strange’ country and in hospital! hope your husband manages to get a flight, will you be going too? as you say, never rains…
wishing your daughter a safe operation and a speedy recovery, is she staying in a hostel? hope she has some friends there.
Love and Hugs to you and your family
Sandra xxx

Hi everyone - sorry to hear about your daughter Gill it is such a worry on top of everything else - hope her Op goes ok and she is back home very soon.

Sandra nice to hear about your clear out - I must do the same as I haven’t really done any proper ‘housework’ since my DX - just haven’t been able to face it as no energy. I too have numerous hairdryers, straightners etc that have been sitting in box’s for years - and like you say having no hair makes you realise you don’t actually need one hairdryer let alone three! I too am on facebook will drop you a PM with details. I am feeling so much better in myself - after my RADS (Hiya Teardrop) I felt quite emotional and as I was so sore it really got me down - My holiday was just at the right time for me.

I live in Solihull, no anywhere near M25 is fine - I can get the M40 or M1 down so no problems.

I have been a member of a gym now for a few years and prior to Dx I did go occassionally but never used it to the full. I have now decided that I will start a ‘fitness’ regime and have booked for the Yoga and Pilates classes these should be gentle enough for me at the moment. They also do aqua arobics which I really fancy but at the moment I don’t think my skin is really up to it - its not sore anymore but is scaley and brownish and I don’t want it to be affected by the clorine - but I will start that perhaps after xmas. There is a really nice spa area too but that will be out of bounds for me.

So best wishes to all you girls, Anne, Kanga, Heather, Lesley, Gill, Jackie, Tracey, Elaine, Maria, Carol, isabelle and Vickie (hope I haven’t missed anyone) love to Toby too! hope you all have a nice restful and fun weekend - I’m still working on my Poem!

Hi ladies,

Just a quick post to wish you all well and a hug to Gill for her daughter (((((Gill)))) hope all goes well with her op.

Am over the effects of last peachy, ready for next one on tuesday, but not up to posting much - had more bad news this week about a friend. And eventhough I have breast cancer I consider my self lucky that it was caught early and I have had no complications like so many other people. I consider myself to be very luck to have such a wonderful family and friends who support me. I consider myself very lucky to have found this forum with all you lovley ladies and thank you for all your support, it would have been so much harder without you all here.

Anyway, this is just a quickie, Nell & Lesley hope the se are not too bad at the moment and that you are both nice and warm under the duvet.

Everyone have a wonderful weekend whatever you are doing

Love, hugs and positive vibes to you all - you are all wonderful women

Well I´m back in body , but I believe I´ve left my brain in the UK . If seen , will you please pop it in a box ( small ) and post to me , I´m slightly better with it than without it !! It will be a small walnut looking wrinkled thing , you´re alright , it won´t move or bite you , in fact even when attatched ,there is very little movement or sign of life !
Yes thank you June , but as you will guess from Sandra , I´m a complete dinosaur when it comes to computers ,Sandra , and others have tried to educate me , but I´m afraid i´m a hopless case.I´m brilliant at copying and pasting with my GC , just love to get messy with the glue , but somehow it does´nt seem to work on this , the keys get sticky and nothing happens !! ( might be better when I get my brain back !) Cats fine , but the dogs looking worrie until he knows I´ve got this off ok !
Had a Heather moment today …Yes indeed girls .
Went to dog training . Had to get up at 7.30 to get ready to take him out first to tire him out , then stop on the way for breakfast . Of course it´s dark here until gone 8am at the moment , so just dragged my underwear out and did´nt bother too much .
Well there we are , working well , Jack doing what he´s asked , and I had that awful feeling , you know the one , when you feel your drawers coming down . Ok , so I was wearing trousers , but it was the most uncomfortable experience as they slid down each trouser leg . I tried to hoist them back up , but it did´nt work , and our trainer , asked me if I had fleas . Good job ,he´s ex metropolitan police dog handler else he might have taken exception to the answer !
Some different topics arose while I was away .
Weight …Yep , plentuy of this , creeping on all the time despite my efforts to halt the tide . I´ve totally lost my waist , and gone up two dress sizes . Hate it , but I need to be more positive in attempting to stop it . Wiring my mouth would be a good idea I think .
Cleavage …Tep , got that as well . However , at 59 , even though I have the best part of two bosoms , it aint worth looking at . Not too wrinkly , if anchored properly to my neck , but otherwise I´m in danger of treading on my nipples . I don´t do running , it´s scary . When I stop , they keep going for a good ten seconds , it´s as if there´s a couple of kittens stuffed up my jumper trying to get out Not nice !
Nipples …Yep , I have tqwo , but the one is´nt talking to the other as it´s pointing the other way now , and is definately smaller , more wrinkled and a different colour to the other .
Hair … No chemo , but the hair under both arms seems to have stopped growing , the hair on my head is definately a bit thin ( femara ) but you´ll all be pleased to know that my leg hair is growing like crazy . no getting out of the leg waxes !
I do know what you mean about your GC perhaps being a little frightened of the mans daughter . Yet sometimes children are more resilient and accepting of a little strangeness than we are . As a child i used to have school dinners . Our school (juniors ) was very small , so we used to have to go across the road to eat at another school . This was for what would be now called "special needs " children . The first day I went , I remember being a bit scared , but after that , not at all , there agian , these children were the same age and size as me , and I thought it was great fun to throw your dinner around , I wanted to join in . Funny what you remember is´nt it ?
When I wa at my son and dil´s last week , she had put a huge bag of baby and small boys clothes , it was supposed to be collected , but they had´nt come for it , so the bag was just there . Jo said she was going to get rid of it as it was taking up too much room and was in the way of the pram , so I bused it down into town and dropped it off at one of the cancer charity shops , I have to admit ,it was a toss up between that and the PDSA .
Don´t overdo it Sandra ,obviously circumstances have dictated that you´re very much needed at the moment , and you are going to help , but please think of your own health , you´ve not got over this lot yet , only just starting on the rads road , we don´t want our "Wise Old Owl " to be so tired that she falls off her perch ! Whose a plucker ? Hope Toby will be safe from your dogs , he´d have an awfully rude awakening from mine ! He loves dead goats , so I´m sure he´d be overjoyed with a live tortoise , on the other hand , he´s a staffie , his poor staffy brain would´nt be up to working out how to make Toby move or come out to play .
I remember "Lost In Space " Used to watch it on a sunday afternoon , never thought I´d be joiniing them ! Was it Dr Smith ? I do remember that one of the little girls in that went on to star with Julie Andrews in "The Sound of Music " I really envied that little girl . Wonder where she is now ? Bet she can use a computer .
Oh Gill what a nightmare time for you , your poor daughter , Hope it works out ok .
I was saying yesterday ( but it went .) that I shall be glad to get back to my pilates , I can really tell the difference not having been very often in the last two months cos of holidays etc . I am stiffening up , really bad at times , and the pains in my hands , feet and legs is so much worse , but it will be another week before I can really get back . Next week looks like being a disaster !
I know I won´t be back in the UK until next February , ( thank you Mr O´Leary …misery guts !) but when I do , I hope I can meet up with at least one or two of you , as this time I will have a car and be travelling around . Will be in the midlands for a time , " have wheels can travel ".
Good to see you back Tracey , and I endorse threefold everything you said , I feel lucky as well . Guardian angel …I think so .Good luck for Tuesday
Jackie , hows it going about your abcess , any neare getting it sorted , what a dreadful time you´re having with it .
Carol …come out come out wherever you are ! Better now ?
Isabelle , yes , we do get told some porkies don´t we . Seeing my miserable onc on monday , am not looking forward to it , or him .
Those poems were brilliant , such clever ladies , I thought you all said you had peachy brain , did´nt seem to zap any brain cells did it ?
Heather , how are you doing after your injection , has it made any difference , are you more comfortable now , still awake all night ?
Was catching up on some magazine reading while I was over there , DIL had some mags , and bought a few . Was reading about Sally ( Corrie ) Bernadette ( Nolans ) and Jennifer Saunders , is it just me , but do more celebs seem to have had BC this year , or is it just that I am now so aware of it ?
Must go , looks like rain , yes it does rain here , although not often , but when it does it comes down in stair rods .
Love to everybody , we´re such a big group now , it great , but I do feel I need a notebook as well as WOO ( Wise Old Owl ) but I need to get my brain back first .
Love to you all , hope the weekend is good , Strictly and the X factor , what a treat , OH sulks all evening !
luvKanga

I did it , I did it !
Aint technology great , when it works !!

Hi Ladies well a dull wet Sat afternoon here. Just got back from the garden centre. Had been for lunch with a friend. Didn’t see Suze or Vicki there am sure I would have known them. And there were no cup cakes to be had either.
Sandra no ‘I wasn’t having a larf pal’ didn’t realise you still had g-s with you. As Kris said circumstances have meant that you could not rest whilst having rads, so far. So hopefully at some time in the not too distant future you can.I can remember many years ago queueing in a wool shop and my daughter was then aged around 3 and was in a push chair she was tucked into a corner of the shop and we could all hear a lot of chortling laughter when I went to see exactly what she was doing she was next to a young adult in a wheel chair who clearly had learning difficulties and they were entertaining each other and their mirth was quite infectious to everyone in the shop. And guess what she now spend ½ her working life with ALD ( Adults with Learning Disabilities)Yes I have tried I spy with a 3 yr old lol. The letter chosen was irrelevant and sometimes the answer was not even to be seen just something he had thought about lol. The youngest did and still does like playing Beetle and was surprisingly good even when he took ages to throw a 6 to get a body and get underway.Hope you can unearth Toby and get him tucked away in his little house for the winter. I have also sorted out some electrical hair care hair things but was told by the charity shops that they do not take electrical goods, even though one styler thingy is brand new in a sealed box, again an unwanted prize.
Nell sorry not seen anything remotely like your brain in this neck of the woods. I love sticking and cutting with g-s so therapeutic not like on these infernal machines at all. Perhaps now Jack can breathe a sigh of relief. That will learn you putting (or not putting) your knickers on in the dark. What on earth happened there?I think a celeb here is travelling the country encouraging us oldies to get surfing. I think it may be Terry Wogan. There has been quite a radio campaign about this.Perhaps we can send him to Spain for you?
Not sure if there are many goats dead or alive in Sandra’s area for Jack to ‘play’ with and Toby spits if disturbed so best left alone. Great if you are over when we meet up. Your description of yourself makes you sound a decrepit old wreck can’t believe that for a moment .Not having been a very hirsute person even before BC I was a bit surprised at the hair loss/ return pattern. Legs only very sparse hair ( sure that was due to years of waxing anyway) and only shaved them once since last PM end of April. Unaffected axilla only v.v.slight and affected axilla even less a bit like a 5 o’clock shadow. As mentioned on another thread decided to buy a cheap wet and dry lady shaver with my Boots points and this has worked a treat. But whoa what is that bikini line flourishing away, now how does that work ?
I think hearing about celebs with BC this year has been at least for me akin to hearing about them being pregnant when I was. Feel much more aware of the condition when one has it oneself. Not that there are necessarily more. Was quite taken with how Ade Edmondson described Jennifer Saunders Dx and it’s impact on him and his family and friends and his seemingly ineffective ability to support her or so he felt, instead of the baloney spouted by some of them who shall remain nameless, but I’m sure you know who I mean.
Will be so relieved to get back to some regular exercise am really feeling the enforced inertia now. Last did an exercise class evening before WLE and ANC late May. I saw an exercise DVD on the BCC publications web site and this arrived yesterday and seems good as a follow on from the exercise leaflet also BCC given by hospital Physio prior to op.’ Getting fitter feeling stronger’.
Gill so sorry to hear about your daughter hope she is OK how worrying for you all.
Tracey hope you had a good time when you got out from under the duvet and that s/e after next Tues are much kinder to you.
Saffronseed great if you joined us in the New year.
Heather hope your radio silence means you are OK or did you fall asleep making up for lost time?
Hope the rest of you are OK.Hugs and love to all. Jackie

Status update-

Vickies nytol worked and she is feeling a lot better for it!

Hi Ladies

Just a quick one to let you know that the TAX truck and trailer got me. The joint pain is awful (god knows how Heather copes) and I feel sick, yuk, hot, blah, blah, blah.

Sorry to be a doomer and gloomer, but Nells goung back under the duvet…

Still working through all your post; sure I’ll get there but gotta go,

Love, ((hugs)), thoughts and wishes to all

Denise x

Denise aka Nell, if you manage to get out from under the blanket again I have one word to say, painkillers, painkillers and more painkillers, after my first tax had to phone emergency dr coz of the pain, he faxed a prescription to the chemist for codine which worked for me hun with the paracetmol (and diclofenac prescribed at clinic), have been told a hot water bottle and a hot bath might help, but I couldn’t face either of them - I did have an infection at the time too that I didn’t know about so was well out of sorts.
Hope you are feeling better by the time you read this

Tracey xxxxxxxx

Hello, loveley ladies
I have escaped from the duvet today but have felt much sicker this time round and still do, but hopefully tomorrow I won’t. managed the allotment today with OH and number one son, so much to do,feeling so grotty couldn’t do much other than string the last of the onions. OH dug up some spuds and started taking the runners down.
Nell, you be kind to yourself and take the painkillers.
Jackie, know what you mean about excersise, I need to start something. I used to do Pilates, I need to find a class.
Kanga, hope your brain turns up and put some new elastis in the knickers!
Gill, hope your OH got a flight to your daughter
Sandra, so you have hairy nipple and a beard, very fetching. hope Toby is ok didn’t know they could spit. OH just spent an hour leaf sweeping.

Carol xx

Now is this machine going to be kind to me and work two days in a row ?
Hey Vickie , you have´nt lent that nytol to heather have you ? We have´nt heard from her this weekend ? Perhaps it would work for her as well , glad you feel better for your sleep .Don´t suooise you get much of a lie in with two bright boys .
Terry Wogan , humm , I don´t know Jackie , I would much prefer Johnny Depp , I´m sure I´d learn much quicker with him , and if I did´nt …what the hell , at least I´d be happy ! Yes , I could do with lessons , but I just hate all these sorts of things . I´ve come back with am MP3 player , great !..what the hell do I do with it ? No girls ( WOO ) I do NOT want your suggestions on a postcard thank you .By the way , Woo is quite a nice nick mame for our Wise Old Owl , far better than the nickmane for my suggestion which was Brown Owl …BO …sorry Sandra ! No I´m not quite decrepit yet , although this last year has done it´s best to do so .
Yes , I remember Sandie Shaw having a baby about the same time as me , ( please don´t ask who Sandie Shaw is Vickie .) and she said , “I had a little song , and there she was ,” I was spitting feathers , she´d had an epidural , and I´d gone 21 hours in strong labour . Never felt the same about her after .And yes , I suppose it is the same about the celebs and BC , I´m much more aware of what is going on this year , and to some of the highly irritating comments some come out with !
Played your DVD yet Jackie ? Watch it a few times with a cup of coffee and a biscuit , and gradually cut out the biscuit .
Nell , what happened to you and Sandra happened to my friend when she had TAX , she called out the emergency doctor , who came and gave her a painkilling injection , she just could´nt cope with it any more . So as Tracey said , go for the whole hog .Keep covered , see you soon .
As one goes under , another emerges . Hi Carol pleased to see you again , and I´m sure whatever you managed to do on the allotement has done you good .
Is this an X Factor free zone ? If it is´nt I just have to say …Please let them get rid of Wagner tonight , I don´t think I can stand much more of him ! As my OH said , "don´t worry , they be booking him for our local fiesta next ". Proberbly , thats the sort of act they put on at 3.30 in the morning when the windows are wide open ,and you can hear every missed note !
Very busy day tomorrow . I´m in Malaga at the main hospital in the morning to see the radiologist , it´s always chaotic there . Then bus back to Velez to see the surgeon in the afternoon . Hope I don´t fall asleep on the bus .
Hope you have all had a fab weekend , not too many duvets amongst us , here´s to a good week .
Slosh on that cream , all you rads girls !
luvKanga

Sorry see it was Kris who has lost her brain not Nell ( my post last evening)Think we might have to rename Kanga droopy drawers. Vicki glad the nytol worked. I first took it when I was having PM and had awful hallucinations so had to stop.Am sure it was something they put in the PM. More recently it has worked rather better.
Nell and Tracey sooo sorry to here the Tax is being so harsh on both of you. Stay under those duvets with the pain killers and come back to us soon as.
It has been a lovely afternoon here and had enough energy to get out there and paint the trellis support and my garden gate and then cut a small edge at the front of the house. Also got my bird table wood treated and set up ( next doors cat was stationed at the base of it fancying his chances.)Then my ankle had had enough and is so swollen had to come indoors am sure this is not gout.
Meanwhile my neighbour was tinkering with his Ducatti and went off for a spin on it all gleaming black and shiny in between us chatting. The minute his back was turned his cat came indoors Meanwhile the gas engineer called again this morning if that young man at the call centre says to me one more time that if this call out does not work he will move it up to a higher level I will not be responsible for my language or my actions, as they now say the system needs a power flush, oh yeh ? had one of those 10 months ago.If b****y BC didn’t get the better of me nor will BG.
Sandra 5 rads down now nearly a 1/3 of the way there hope you get a bit of rest soon hun although I know it is 1/2 term next week too.
Hope Heather is just too busy with her creative writing to come and say Hi. Love to all and hugs too.Hope the week goes as well as poss for you all. Jackie
