Embarking on an adventure, you are welcome to tag along

Hi Tors,
A photo of when you were young is just as good! what about one of your wig on the stand, at least we will know what your hair looks like!!
Wow, so it does cope in the wind! well done wig! what about the rain? anyone tried that yet?
So did you buy the wig and then take it into Trevor Sorbie? or did you buy it from them?

The ball is brilliant, first time we have got it out today! l actually got it just after christmas, from Boots, l saw it before christmas but it was £70, and l had spent enough!! so in January Boots had a half price sale, and l had some club card points so it was £35 and paid for from my boots points, good buy!
It is made by Lexibook, had a look on the wedsite and couldn’t find any, so perhaps they stopped selling them, Amazon do something similar, but smaller, think it was called tumble ball, they also do a large hampster wheel, think they would have to be older than my grandsons for the hampster wheel, mine are 5 and 3
If l see the lexibook one l will let you know!

Hi Sandra,
We watched the film Australia…it was very good…I cried at the end but that’s not unusual for me but I think I overdid it a bit…maybe nervous about Thursday and I had to let the tension out a bit!
My wig(s) are synthetic but look very real, nearly had an argument with one of the female pupils at school as she would not believe that it was not my real hair after a trip to the hairdressers!!! That was very reassuring but she did believe me when I proved it to her…she still liked it too. Most of my colleagues now want one as they reckon it would be so much quicker getting ready!! I may start a new trend who knows!
Anyone taken theirs out in the rain? I was windering what would happen if it got rained on? I was told at hte centre to wash mine in baby shampoo… but not the no tears one…ok so where on this earth do you get baby shampoo that is NOT no tears formula cos I cannot find any:-{

My second one looks like my line managers hair and when I wore it on Friday one of the kids asked if we were related…my line manager was peeved cos she said mine looked better than hers…at least we are getting a bit of fun from this situation…if anyone would have told me that all this was fun!!! well I would never have believed it…am greatful for the ligher moments…they help me to cope with the darker ones.

The large ball sounds fun, very sensible decision though re the hill with pond at the bottom!
Hugs for now Suze xx

Good Morning, ladies

Well I did not manage to avoid the “train”. I got me on Sat. needless to say no jewelry got made as I could not even get out of bed, let alone out of the house! Managed to get up at 5 pm for a few hours.Felt better yeasterday, managed the allotment for an hour then to a friend’s open house ( it was her 80th) where I found myself eating slices of pizza, not something I would normally eat, especially cold, but it actually tasted a bit like pizza! I, too have gone off tea & coffe but can still just about drink Redbush.
Sunday morning breakfast is the only meal my OH cooks. I normally have poached egg & mushrooms on toast but I seem to have gone right off mushrooms and can’t have my egg poached, so I made myself one scrammble egg on toast. The OH ate his two poached eggs & mushrooms on toast, cleared his plate then realised his bacon was still under the grill! He blamed me for distracting him as he was only doing breakfast for one!

My hair has not begun to disappear yet but, hopefully, I will have had it chopped before that happens.

Off to the allotment now, got beans & courgettes to go in today.

Hope there are no more trains lurking!!

Take care everyone

Carol

Hi everyone,

My wig is synthetic and it feels it, like having loads of old fashioned hair spray on ! But everyone says it looks good. good job no one wants to run their hands though my hair. My sons like to stroke my hairless head, it helps me get used to it too, but my photo of my bald head is only for you ladies. The wig is the one I had in 2003 and I will be getting my new one soon. I was told to wash it once a week with any sort of shampoo and then whizz it round to get the excess water off ( like a dog shakes I suppose) and leave it overnight to dry. Real hair wigs are extremely expensive and not on my budget.
It has rained since Friday evening non stop here, so I went out in the rain with my wig on and, great, don’t feel the rain, like having an invisible hat on.
Gill, its a shame our breasts don’t grow back too isn’t it ?
Suze, two wigs, thats good and you looking better than your boss. Great stuff, got to grab fun when you can. That’s why I dyed my hair orange before it all fell out.
Tors, I am sure that your 2 year old photo will de fine. It’s just nice to put a face to the name. Good stickablity test. Yes I like Victoria Woods too.
Sandra, your ball sound fun. I live on a mountain slope, so I can’t imagine I’ll be getting one !! We have lost so many footballs since the kids were small. Mind you I would have liked to loose the kids sometimes !!

Hope you all have a good day
Love Maria

Hi Carol, missed you on my first go. When did you have your first chemo ?

I started my adventure just after Easter was diagnosed on 28th April had my WLEetc. on 17th May and now waiting to go back on "nd. June for results and what happens next so I guess I am on an adventure too. Had to cancel my holiday booked for first two weeks in July consultant’s advise too soon to travel never mind we can go later.Know what you mean about friends and the love you are given. Good to be part of the adventure with you all.

Hi Mum51
Welcome to the adventure. It helps me get through it, looking at it as an adventure. I’m really sorry you had to cancel a holiday. In 2003 I was diagnosed mid June and after my mx, had my first chemo 2 weeks before I left to go to South Africa for a family holiday that had been booked since February. My onc gave me his e-mail address in case I had any problems, but all went OK. I’m planning on going again, flying BA on 25th July. I hope they are not still on strike !!
Good luck for the 2nd June, thats the date of my 2nd chemo.
Hugs
Maria

Good morning ladies,

Maria, glad you had a good time in the old blighty! You have been a busy bee this morning posting. Living on a mountainside…sounds perfectmind you I live at the top of a big big hill near the pennines, my lounge has a great view over the hills because we are so high up.I bet you have a great view too and it gives us a lot to appreciate.

Mum51, hi and sorry you had to cancel your holiday…I had one booked to ski in Bannff in Canada at Easter which had to be cancelled too…pain in the rear isn’t it? Now with travel insurance issues dunno when I will get abroad :frowning: Never mind tho they have predicted the hottest summer since records began so we may not need to go far…not sure if that hot will help us but hey ho - one thing we cannot change is the weather!!

Gill, yes having a few lighthearted moments with the new hairstyles then reality hits home, like you am wobbling every now and then at the mo as Thursday gets closer. This is scarier than the op and that was scary enough. Two more days of this and I will be a wreck, I can feel the tears are there waiting to fall constantly…I know they warned me my eyes may water but flipping heck I haven’t had any treatment yet!!!
Gill regarding wig styling,I 'm near Manchester and went to the place connected to the Christie hospital - a little salon type place. The ladies were great , very patient whilst I made my mind up as there were so many many styles and colours to choose from and a brochure to begin with. I chatted to the ladies about needing a fringe so they found me styles which would be good and when I chose they trimmed the fringes for me whilst wearing the wigs. Trevor Sorbie also does a wig trimming service so I believe. Mine came ready styled so just the fringes to trim for me.

Carol sorry the train caught you up, sounds like you coped well tho if you’re out filling the fields again today…don’t overdo it…we are superwomen but still need to take care of ourselves :-)) I am going to try a light exercise regime as its supposed to help overcome the fatigue.

Rain on wig…thank you for leaving that information as I was wondering how it affected them

Hello to all other travellers and may we go a long way today :-))))))
stay good and strong hugs Suze xxx

Hello Mum51, sorry you have had to join us all on here but it’s a loverly supportive set of people. I’m am at the same stage as you and was dx on 27th April, had WLE and SNB on 12th May and expecting my results tommorow. I have a holiday booked for late September and my BCN told me not to cancel it, I do hope she’s right as it’s been booked for over a year and we are going with friends, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Maybe you could rebook for a later holiday? I hope all goes well for you.

Best Wishes to all, I hope I haven’t forgotten anyone today.

Hi Ladies
Suze, Doesn’t take too much to set us off does it? wonder why you can’t use ‘no more tears’ love the thought of that!!! no more tears!!!
Would something like ‘simple’ shampoo not do? another question for the wig lady! xxx

Gill, Lovely to ‘see’ you! those silhouette’s always remind me of Alfred Hitchcock! although saying that his was side on and ours are full frontal!!
Good Luck on Wednesday, with your pre chemo visit! xxx

Carol,Well you were warned about getting out of the way of that train! you must have felt bad if you couldn’t get out of bed until 5pm!! poor you.
But you sound as though you are back on form, with the allotment and pizza! didn’t quite understand the ‘no poached eggs?’ Mmmmmmmm l love mushrooms, hope l don’t go off them! bad enough having chemo, without going off all our favourite food! xxx

Maria, synthetic wig, as someone said on one of these posts, be careful when you open the oven door!! Oh could you imagine their face, if someone run their hand through your hair, bad enough it feels caked on with hair spray, but if it came off too!! Good Luck with your ‘men’ tomorrow (kitchen)xxx

Mum51, Welcome,The dreaded waiting for results, shame about your holiday, but your health comes first and foremost, Hope it is good results for you xxx

Isabelle, Fingers crossed for you and your results tomorrow, I hope your bcn is right about your holiday, perhaps she was giving you a little hint!! xxx

A visit from my son and family had me in tears this morning, when my granddaughter who will be 3 in July, ‘signed’ that ‘she loved me with all her heart’ she has been learning sign language, not for any reason, they just thought it would be good for her to learn, along with horse riding, gymnastics, swimming…I was quite content to play in the street when l was a child! such a shame they can’t do that now!

Sorry if l have missed anyone, and good luck to all that are waiting for results this week, and safe travelling for those having chemo

Hello ladies ,
Well, I’ve spent ages trying to put a photo of myself on the image thingy, not very good as it is too distant. I will get the hang of doing it properly sometime. I think I need a few lessons from Maria !!!

Best Wishes to all,

Isabelle xxx

Hi Isabelle,
Looks good to me! Nice to ‘see’ you!

Hi Everyone,
No more oven cooking for 3 weeks, my kitchen man arrived as promised at 8 am and I have no more use of my kitchen, so the synthetic wig is safe. I am now camping in the spare bedroom. However he is efficient but not handsome, so no dreams of running hands through my hair !!
Saw my onc yesterday who asked me a list of questions rather like a machine, not conducive to asking questions or talking about what really matters. But all seems to be well and I shall have my 2nd FEC tomorrow. My little niggle in my ribs is apparently due to the surgeon, making sure everything was gone. I feel really positive now.

Isabelle, the photo is fine, nice to see you. If you have an editing thing for photos you can crop the photo a bit and then, it you should appear bigger. As for your holiday, go for it girl.

Suze, I did have my first photo as a winter view from my house, but now you have to look at me instead !! I’m glad you have a great view too, getting bc does remind ourselves to appreciate the simple things in life. Apparently exercise is good, I’m off to a qi-gong session this afternoon.

Sandra, how lovely granddaughter doing sign language, my Down’s son does it cos he doesn’t have much comprehensible speech and it’s great. All the best for your appointment with the onc. Hope he is handsome !

Have a good day everyone
Hugs from Maria

Hi, everyone

Suze-I got my wig from Nu-Style in Whitefield. the ladies there very helpfull. I am seeing my hairdresser on Thurs for cropping and tweaking (my hair then the wig!)

Sandra-poached eggs. Eggs have to be solid apparently, I suppose I could have a solid poaced egg but the that would put OH off his stride completley!

Glad we got everything in on the allotment yesterday as it is all being watered at the moment!
Well I’m off to the drop-in now, driving myself for the first time since op. I have promised not to crash the car

Carolxx

Hi Carol,
I went to Nu-Style toofor my wig(s). Yes the ladies were brilliant. I felt very apprehensive on the way there but that went once we got started. All in all it was more of a pleasant than unpleasant experience.
(Just been looking online here at wigs too…
wigstoreuk.co.uk/index.php …and simplywigs.co.uk/…this one does eyebrows too!)

Unlike today for me (since yesterday actually) the tears are flowing nonstop at the mo…definately having a weepy time at the moment:-((
Hugs Suze xx

Hi Ladies,
Well good new is the bcn only got 20mls of seroma from my mx! Lol

Met the Onc. who was a lot nicer than l thought he would be, heard a few stories about his bedside manner!!
I suppose he didn’t tell me anything l didn’t already know, was too frightened to ask my % of getting through this! does anyone ask? unless you are 98% sure l don’t think l want to know. 98%? that is what l was told before the mx and the nodes!!
He sounded ‘quite’ positive, but then again l suppose he would, perhaps as time goes on l might get brave enough to ask more questions, but at the moment…
He said he was hoping to get me started within 2 weeks, so l will await the letter!
He said l will have 10 days of injections after each chemo, to keep my immune system up and running! seems the district nurse comes and jabs me in the tummy! nice!
He said l could have a line put in, although he thought my veins were good!! famous last words, we will see how it goes. Seems he only likes to do the portacath if you are having herceptin!

I was fine all the way through, but on the way home, my OH asked me when l was going to see about a wig, this started the tears!! Oh he said l cant believe it, all this morning you have been so brave, then l put my foot in it! I did say, no l think it is just me! trying to make him feel better!

Maria, Good luck with your second FEC tomorrow, glad your niggle was just a niggle! Not sure the onc was handsome, but very smart! xxx

Carol, oh didn’t know that about ‘soft’ eggs! l do like a soft egg!!

Suze, Hope the tears are slowing down, we all get these moments, doesn’t take much does it? I will have a look at your wig stores when l get off here!

Lots of Hugs to all
Sandra xxx

Hello Ladies,
Sandra, I hope all goes well with the chemo, I think it would be very hard to ask some of the questions we all want to know but are too scared to ask. I’m sure your wig will be great and the sooner it’s all started the sooner it’s finished, two weeks is not far off I will be thinking of you , take care of yourself and good luck.
You were right about the BCN giving me a hint about my holidays, She is off this week and I waited nearly all day for someone to ring to let me know about my results, in the end I rang the hospital at 3.10 pm and I got an answerphone, left a message, and the nurse rang back later and told me the good news that my margins and SNB are both clear, and they are now reffering me to the oncologist for radiotherapy in a few weeks time followqed by five years of tablets, Femara - I think. I am so happy I just don’t know what else to say (thank god). So I will get on my cruise!!! Sorry if that sounds filipant but it’s been my light at the end of a tunnel. My OH was up unable to sleep just like me last night, he does’nt say much but he had a big smile on his face after the phone call, and my daughter who has been sitting with me waiting for the call was over the moon just like us.
I’m sorry if I sound so upbeat when everyone is going through so much s–t, but I just wanted to let people know that you can sometimes get good news as well as not so good.
I hope everyone else is keeping well today,

Best Wishes to everyone,

Isabelle xxx

Hi Isabelle
Fantastic news for you…It is good to hear good news, all too much sadness on here!
So now you have your cruise to look forward, just what you need!!
Radiotherapy will soon come and go!
Can just imagine the big smile on your faces
Take care
Love
Sandra xxx

Isabelle,
Wonderful news, don’t be sorry about being up-beat, we are here to share good and less good news. I am really happy for you, a cruise hey, I wonder if you will have Kevin Cruise to entertain you (Britain’s got talent star (?))
Sandra, one step at a time, enjoy the next two weeks with all your hair. They give us the chemo because it improves your chances, so look at it that way, statistics can always be manipulated, I didn’t dare ask my chances either, but I might be run over by a bus tomorrow anyway !! I hope not, because I had 4 kitchen men in my kitchen this afternoon, wow. An improvement on my tree feller I can tell you. And anyway I want to get years and years out of my new kitchen.
Hugs to all
Maria
