Endo and tamoxifen

I’m currently having a lot of pelvic health physio and she suspects that my symptoms are pointing towards bowel endometriosis (been having a plethora of symptoms for a few years and back and fourth to GP). I started tamoxifen for 7 weeks and all my pelvic symptoms seemed to have really ramped up over the past week - does tamoxifen worsen endo symptoms? My anxiety is through the rough that it’s more cancer

Hi strudderz,

Thanks for your post.

It’s understandable your anxiety is through the roof given your pelvic health symptoms have increased since starting on tamoxifen 7 weeks ago. Nearly everyone who has been treated for cancer worries about it coming back (recurrence), or more cancerand you’re notalone in being anxious about this.

As you will see on the previous link, Tamoxifen can affect the lining of the womb (endometrium), which may become thickened. Endometriosis is a rare but known side effect, so it is possible that it may worsen existing endometriosis symptoms.

You say your pelvic health physiotherapist suspects your symptoms may point towards bowel endometriosis. Due to this, and your increase in pelvic symptoms, we would suggest discussing this further with your GP, breast care nurse or treatment team so they can investigate further if needed. It is important to report any unexpected vaginal bleeding or pain.
