I had an MRI a couple of weeks ago basically to look a the damage done to my chest by the tissue expanders and it has shown enlarged lymph nodes in both axillae. Of course, I’m starting to panic a bit but was wondering if this has happeend to anyone else in the DCIS category?
hi, firstly i did not have DCIS, i had invasive cancer removed initially by lumpectomy in march 2009, then i had ‘preventative’ bi lateral mastectomies with expander implants in Nov 2009.
i have seen my surgeon today for review and asked him to check what i was feeling as enlarged lymph nodes in my left (disease) side.
he said he didn’t feel anything sinister, and went on to check the other side (no initial disease) where we felt similar ‘enlarged’ nodes. he suggested that this was just ‘settling down’ after the surgery. not sure when you had yours?
i am very aware of the need not to falsely reassure anyone on this site without them checking things out with their own team, so i would urge you to check out your concerns with yours. however, i do feel it is possible to have ‘reactive’ lymph nodes without there necessarily being a problem.
I saw the Plastic Surgeon on Wednesday and he said he would expect lymph nodes to be enlarged as I had bilateral surgery (in July 2008, by the way) and that it’s not unusual. However, he did recommend a repeat MRI in 3 months just to check that they haven’t got any bigger.
