The Orthopedist I went to for my knee and hip was a Surgeon and not really looking at me as a person. I feel like I should have known. Everyone kept asking if I had joint pain and I said no. I expected “joint pain” to be systemic and this was specific to my right side. Initially I thought I injured myself with a suitcase since it was suddenly after a transatlantic flight. I am happy that my Oncologist figured it out. I was a RN and often figure stuff like this out for other people. Oh well. I am relieved it is gone.
I am on Exemestane and have found Glenmark to be the best with minimal side effects. Zentiva gave me terrible leg cramps. I went a few months there without being able to get Glenmark but have discovered that Kent are just as good for me. I have taken to phoning around all local pharmacies and asking which brands of Exemestane they have in stock. I’m willing to travel to get my preferred brand
Hi Kaz
I know this post is a little old. I’ve been on Exemestane for about 9 months, the past 10 days using the Morningside brand. My joints (ankles, knees, and fingers) have gone stiff and starting to become painful in such a short period, and I am thinking is it the brand? Would I feel the effects that quickly? Or is it just the lack of estrogen now catching up.
Prior to that a little bit achy. Hot flushes frequently, made worse by the hot weather. But fortunately none to serious.
Reading your post about Morningside, have you managed to dodge this brand and doing better with another since making your post?
Hi! So sorry, I don’t come on here very often. I’m always glad to help. Yes morningside was awful! I did manage to get the Aromasin brand of Exemestane thankfully and that has been fine for me.
I haven’t been on here much lately, but just looking for some info on exemestane. I’ve been on it for 6 months, the first 3 or 4 were fine, compared with letrozole, which I gave up due to joint pain. But now I’m metastatic and can’t give up, I take it in conjunction with Palbociclib. The last couple of months I’ve had some awful joint pain, especially at night. I hadn’t thought about the brand or if it made a difference. But I see several people are saying that side effects are worse with Morningside. I’ve just been to check what I have……and surprise surprise, it’s Morningside. I don’t think I had this brand in my last prescription, the box is a different shape. I’ve still got about 6 weeks left on this prescription so I think I’ll have to stick with it for now, but I think I will ask my pharmacy if they can get another brand, eg Glenmark next time. But I do notice more and more with other drugs, that the brand varies every time it’s prescribed. I think there has been a big money saving push and pharmacists are told to go for the cheapest brand. My prescription automatically goes through from the GP to my local pharmacy, so I dont think I can try other pharmacies.
You could ask your surgery to change which Pharmacy your prescriptions go to if need be but first explain to your GP that your’re having a problem with one brand in particular and ask them to put on your prescription to dispense the previous brand that you preferred . Forgive me if you have tried these things already xx
I was doing well on Glenmark. I asked my doctor to reissue the prescription, and refused to take Morningside when they tried to throw them in the bag again. I waited 2 weeks until another brand, Aromasin came available. The pharmacy said they have no control, depends on what head office are buying. So down to money.
I did try Morningside again, with the tablets I had left over just to be sure it wasn’t something else, and about a week later the severe aches and stiffness were very noticeable.
I’m waiting to pick up a new prescription this week, this time I’ve asked the doctor to specify “No morningside”. Hopefully I don’t need to explain my reasons again to the pharmacist! ![]()
I asked my local pharmacy if they had any control over the brand of Exemestane and they were quite adamant that they did not, it was whatever the head office sent. I’ve been on Morningside for the past 2 months, with awful joint pain, especially knees. I’ve just picked up Rudipharm this morning, I’ll see how I get on. Does anyone think that Boots may be more helpful if I changed to them?
