Hello. Thanks for those who have posted about Exemestane. Its been helpful to understand the experience of others. I was on Letrozole for just over a year. Overall I did ok on it but towards the year mark (Sept 2024) the joint pain was getting bad. I’ve had a break off it for 5 weeks. I should be starting Exemestane. I’m concerned that one of the common side effects is reduced white blood cells which could result in higher risk of infections. Has anyone experienced getting infections more since starting Exemestane? Thanks.
Sorry you haven’t had a reply to your post @BC60 , just responding so hopefully someone with experience of this will see your post .You could also maybe ask some advice in the Ask our Nurses your questions section of the forum ?
I have no personal experience of this but I know several people who like yourself have been changed onto it after struggling with side effects from Letrozole or Anastrozole and they all seem to be much happier with Exemestane . One friend who a few years ago was with struggling with prolonged sinus infections has been very well in herself since starting Exemestane though she has made an effort to look after herself better which does make a difference - don’t know if that helps. I understand your concerns about the side effects and the fact that it’s steroidal as opposed to non- steroidal . There’s not really an explanation of what that actually means to you as a patient .
@JoanneN thanks for your response and for sharing the experience of your friend. Thats helpful to know. I appreciate your answer.
