I had diep reconstruction 7 weeks ago all heeling well just woundering if anyone new how long you
Should wait before starting to do exercise again.
Hi Studdrs55,
I had a discussion today about this procedure with the surgeon today as a possibilty for me, she told me 3-6 months for recovery, I got the feeling that vigorous exercise (I was a gardener) would be a bad idea as she emphasised how big an op it was, however for me I would have this done immediately after my mx. I am unsure if this is the case for you?
Are you happy, with how things have gone for you? Can you tell how it looks yet? - I may have to have the back thing instead , but I prefer the DIEP if poss.
Hope this helps

Hi ladies, I had mx with immediate diep recon 8 weeks go. PS has advised to wait at least 12 weeks prior to doing exercise due to strain on tummy scarring.
Hope this helps.
Anne
I went back to pilates at six weeks with my PS blessing. I took it easy and the instructor knew about my op. There were a few tummy exercises that I missed out and didn’t put any strain on my shoulder but I found the core and arm exercises really good and helped me get back complete mobility very quickly.
I also did lots of walking starting as soon as I got home with short walks to start with and gradually increasing the distance as I gained in strength.

Thanks for all your coments i will just keep walking at moment.

Hi
I am surprised that you did not have a visit from the physiotherapists when you were in hospital Studders55.
I had to see them as part of my pre-op assessment and they visited the ward when I was recovering from my op (mx and DIEP). They gave me a booklet of exercises to do - Stage 1 and Stage 2 - Stage 1 to be started about a week after the op and Stage 2 about 2 to 4 weeks later. However I think that these exercises are for my mx and to get me moving after that rather than for my DIEP so maybe you need to talk to your BCN?
Not sure I have been much help!

Hi there,
I has really bad back pain after my DIEP, so asked to see a physio who gave me exercises that increased in intensity at 2 weeks, 4weeks and 8 weeks. By 8 weeks after you should be able to do quite a lot if you’ve built up to it. I found a leaflet produced by an NHS trust with specific DIEP exercises that matched what the physio told me.
If you’ve done pelvic thrusts, leg raises, side topside stretches, side to side knee stretches, etc, then I understand you should be able to start pilates under supervision. If you pm me I can send you the leaflet
