hi everyone,
i just got back from a check up with my oncologist. I asked if there were any support groups for people like me who are trying to get back in shape after treatment. I was told there arent any such support groups so instead I thought I’d start one. So here goes. I have been trying to get back to fitness for 5 months since rads but it seems to be getting worse. I think I just need some motivation and I’m hoping that together we can all help each other with that. So this weekend I’m going to do two exercise classes and I will try to go out running. Earlier this week I tried to run 5 miles but only managed 2. Every step counts! What will you be doing ? ??
Hi Lovely,
Welcome to the forum.
What an excellent idea, a 2 mile run is impressive. I am sure some of our users will be along soon to share their thoughts, support and get involved.

Exercise definitely makes me feel better. I did yoga throughout my treatment and now also do aquarobics and body balance, on top of daily walks with puppy.
It would be worth contacting your local leisure centre and gyms to find out what they offer - gp is not always aware! In my area (Herts/beds border) they leisure centres run classes for cancer patients.
I’m looking for like minded people to help and support my return to fitness. I had chemo, full left mastectomy and radiotherapy and now I am 18 months into 10 years of Tamoxifen.
Prior to diagnosis I was a marathon runner and long distance open water swimmer. Exercise was my life and when I wasn’t doing it I was socialising with my running and swimming friends.
Since active treatment finished I’ve been trying to get my life back which includes getting a reasonable level of fitness. I don’t expect to get back to where I was but it would be nice to at least do something.
My problem is that ongoing fatigue. Today I did 15 min on the cross trainer in the gym and I had to stop because I went dizzy and my energy died. I even struggled to get changed afterwards. I don’t seem to be able to get past this stage so I was looking to see if anyone else had any tips
