Hi everyone,
I wanted to let you know about a charity I am involved in called Move Against Cancer. The charity supports people who are going through, or have recovered from, treatment for any cancer to exercise to help with symptoms and improve recovery. There is loads of evidence to show that exercise, even just a regular walk, can help improve treatment, reduce treatment symptoms, and reduce the risk of breast cancer recurrence.
Move Against Cancer runs 5KYourWay on the last Saturday of each month at Parkruns around the country where people like me meet up and jog or walk 5K and meet for a coffee afterwards. We are launching a new group at Fulham Parkrun in Fulham, London, on Saturday 27th September. (If you don’t know, Parkrun is a national initiative where people of all abilities jog or walk 5K on Saturday mornings at parkrun events around the country).
I have just finished 5 months of AC-T chemotherapy for primary breast cancer (HER2+ and ER+) and will soon have surgery and radiotherapy. The chemo was tough but doing gentle exercise throughout my treatment was a massive help. I know it’s not easy, and not everyone can cope with even a short walk during such tough times, but gentle exercise really does help with symptoms and your mental health if you can do something.
If you are interested in finding out more, please message me or look at the Move Against Cancer website: moveagainstcancer.org
Thanks a lot!
