Hi - I’m 6 weeks post WLE and lymph node biopsy. I’ve been doing my exercises x 3 each day, walking daily and using an exercise bike and I’ve also just returned to the pool to swim. I get some aching in my breast / underarm with exercise and wondered is that a sign I’ve done too much or is that just a normal part of returning to movement again ?
Hello shaz6
Thank you for posting.
Continuing with your exercises after a wide local excision (WLE) and lymph node biopsy along side other exercise is an important part of recovery and regaining your strength and movement.
It is common to experience some ongoing pain and discomfort in the weeks after surgery as your body recovers and repairs. This might be due to nerve damage during surgery or general stiffness and inflammation under the arm or in the breast.
Some people find they have more discomfort and stiffness as they begin to move their arm more and become more active. This usually improves naturally over time.
Sometimes increased pain after exercise can be a sign that you are doing a little too much and it is important to listen to your body and rest between exercise. Your body needs time and energy to recover and it is important to gradually increase the amount of exercise you do and pace your progress.
