Hi there I am one week post op today for a WLE, nipple excision and sentinel node removal in left breast. Diagnosed with DCIS and grade 1 but waiting on results of surgery. I have been doing the BCN exercises but struggling with No’s 4 and 6. I appreciate I am 1 week out but today it seemed harder to do them than when I first started. It pulls and is tender and I am the kind of person who has a high pain threshold and likes to see progress LOL! Is this normal and just wondered when it might improve to where I can do the exercises more easily. There’s no redness and no signs of cording that I can see anyway but it’s just so tight and sore when I reach a certain point in those particular exercises. Any advice or support gratefully received! Thank you
Hello @sjj,
Thank you for posting.
It’s understandable that you are wondering whether it’s normal to feel tenderness and a pulling sensation when doing your post-op exercises 1 week after your wide local excision and sentinel node biopsy.
Many women find that they experience more discomfort as your body goes through different stages of the healing process than they did immediately post-op. It is not uncommon to find that certain exercises may feel harder at different points, and this should improve over the next few weeks. A pulling or stretching sensation is usually normal at this point.
You may find it help to take simple pain medicines, such as paracetamol, before starting your exercises as this may make it more comfortable. You may wish to contact your breast care nurse or treatment team for further advice if you remain concerned.
