Hi. I have been treated for a DCIS invasive tumour hormone receptor positive HER2 negative. I’m 5 weeks post surgery after a lumpectomy and lymph node removal and wondering on what strength based exercises to start with? I’ve got my mobility back and still sore in my boob and the scar under my arm. I’m taking regular walks and wondering what sort of strength exercise I could start with. I haven’t a clue what to do and don’t want to hurt myself. I’ve also started my hormone therapy mediation for the next 5 years and have radiotherapy to come. It’s all so daunting and isolating. Please help ![]()
Not sure as I’m 6 weeks post double mastectomy (with implant reconstruction) I’ve been told no upper body at the moment bu this may be different due to implants. I had a lot of restriction from cording, my surgeon broke down my cord using very firm and painful pressure, cracking and snapping which stopped the pain and tightness immediately and I haven’t had to continue with post surgery exercises and just firmly press and massage the SLNB scar. I’ve got on oncology appt tomorrow to discus chemo and radio tomorrow, but I’m guessing for me the plan will be more on chemo etc rather than advice on exercise. Will be interesting to see what other people’s experience is as regarding advice on exercise has all been vague.
Hi - I’m 5 weeks post lumpectomy and axillary node sampling too. In the same boat actually with regard to still having some discomfort and wondering when I can start some more exercises. Think most of the literature says to wait 6-8 weeks to get back to normal activities so I’m taking this as my guide but I have started housework and a bit more moving my arm to see how it goes. I’ve booked a private physio session as really feel I need a bit more guidance about how my recovery is going and when I can go swimming etc - think that will be what I will try first. Also waiting to start radiotherapy so waiting for that plan too. Lots of waiting x
Hi Pearl. Isn’t it just. The waiting is unreal and really hard. I’ve had my results now and have my oncologist appointment Thursday. My consultant said on the 15th it’s a 10-12 week wait after that for radiotherapy. I’m off sick as I work in the hospital and it’s all too much for me. McMillan nurses referred me for counselling so looking forward to that and hopefully emptying my head a little from all this trauma. I might give them a call about a physio too to see if they recommend anyone first. I’m back with the housework and pottering but after a long walk I’m in pain again and sat with a hot water bottle. The joys …
Hi again - sorry to hear it’s still so painful. Have you tried Voltarol - that’s what I was recommended plus massage to desensitise the lump node area - arm pit and upper arm hurts for me. However just had telephone appointment with radiography re my plan. 15 sessions, 40 gy - was hoping for less but due to my 1 positive lymph node. No voltarol for me now as apparently can make skin reaction worse but guess I can use for a few more days. Will start either 14th or 21 st Feb - again has to approved by Tuesday morning meeting. Glad that at least some of my waiting is over - step by step. Will start Letrozole soon too - wait for the side effects (if any) to kick in and then hopefully subside ![]()
