Hi
First time on this forum, so I hope someone can give me advice. I had WLE on 20th Feb (unfortunately have to go for further surgery next Tuesday to remove further pre-cancer cells) I am concerned about getting lymphoedema and know I have to take care of my arm but I am not sure of the best exercises to do, how often etc.
I know I have to keep my arm moisturised but again do I do this once a day or maybe morning and night.
Can anyone please give me any tips. I would be really grateful. I don’t want to become paranoid over this but obviously it is something I need to think about.

Hi mommyw
Has no-one mentioned this to you at the hospital? No mobilisation exercises? I think perhaps you should contact your bcn and see what’s expected of you at this stage.
I’m not sure what you should be doing exercise-wise whilst awaiting further surgery…but it can’t hurt to be ‘nice’ to your arm, by avoiding heavy lifting, too many repetitive actions, cuts, scratches, bites, burns (disinfect them immediately if you get them), supporting your arm whem resting (especially the elbow).
Moisturising is a good idea - gently, starting at the top of your arm and working downwards, but with an upwards motion if you follow me.
I don’t know if exercises per se actually directly prevent lymphoedema. Exercise (even just going for a walk) is always a good thing for lymphatics, tho’, provided it isn’t overdone and good muscle tone is good for the lymphatics, too.
I think it would be good to talk things over with yur bcn as you have had surgery quite recently and will be having more very soon.
