A few days ago I experienced an intense burning sensation while holding my son very close against my chest. It happened again in the night when turning over in bed. It really feels like it is burning inside. It is only on my left breast at present. Has anyone experienced anything like this before and what could it mean.
Dear susiebee
Welcome to the BCC forums, I have added a link to a Breast Cancer Care publication on breast awareness that you may find helpful, it can either be downloaded or ordered via the helpline on freephone 0808 800 6000, you can talk to one of our specialist nurses on this number regarding your concerns if you feel this would be of help. .

Hello,
I have recently had some changes to my breasts. One of which I mentioned to my doctor and after checking she advised that it was just a mark on my breast and due to various matters (eg: blood vessels) I shouldn’t be concerned.
However, my other breast seems to have grown over the last couple of weeks and I am not sure whether I am being paranoid for no reason or whether it is something I should be concerned about and discuss further with my doctor. I am also getting quite achy around my arm pits and breasts and I know that my mum felt like this when she was diagnosed a few years ago (she didn’t feel any lumps around the breast and went to the doctors with shoulder problems - turns out that the lump was right behind the nipple and would have been hard to detect).
My nanna (who was my mums mum) also had breast cancer but they both had different types of breast cancer.
I have seen a few brochures and I know that an increase in the size of breast and aching in the armpits can be signs. I feel I am starting to get paranoid when checking as I am worried I am overreacting or being stupid and nothing is there.
Do people who have started having problems the armpit and enlarged breast also suffer with other matters or can these two be symptoms without feeling lumps?
Sorry if the above sounds stupid but I don’t want to waste my doctors time especially as I have asked about a different breast when I was last at the doctors.
Thanks
Angie
Hi Angie, I’m a newbie on here, but after reading your post all I can say is if it’s a worry get it checked out, maybe if you have a nurse at your surgery she could take a look. Good Luck xxx
Hi Angie,
As Varmint has suggested do get any changes to your breast checked out, if you’re not happy with the G.P. you saw last time is there another at your surgery you could see? It might also help you if you give the BCC helpline a ring and have a chat with one of the nurses here. The calls are free, lines open Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm and Saturdays 9am - 2pm, the number to call is 0808 800 6000.
You might also find useful BCC’s booklet about breast cancer in families which I have put the link to below. You can either download a copy or order a copy to be posted out to you free of charge.

Hi Angie, you go and get it checked out ,Do you know all us ladies on here love to here that you have been waisting the Drs time
and you get the all clear, the dr himself included.they do like to give good news.xxxxx
Hi there.
Yes, go and get it checked - I have similar symptoms (which I have had before and it’s been nothing) but I am going today to the breast clinic to have it checked - I am absolutely terrified but know I have to go for my own peace of mind.
Hi Angie,
You should most definitely get this checked out and, even if it is nothing untoward, you will at least get peace of mind. Don’t worry about having been and had your other breast checked out already - if necessary see another doctor. Make sure you stress that your Mom and her Mom had breast cancer as I think they should automatically send you to the hospital for tests under those circumstances. Hopefully if will turn out to be something fairly trivial but best to be on the safe side.
Best wishes.
