Eyebrows and eyelashes!??

Eyebrows and eyelashes!??

Eyebrows and eyelashes!?? Hi there,

just wondering if anyone can help me solve a little queary I’ve got?? Had my second epi last weds and my hair started coming out big time the following day. Its now 8 days on from that and I am virtually totally hairless. Its gone from pretty much everywhere on my body, except for my eyebrows and eyelashes!

I’m curious as to whether its possible that I won’t lose my eyebrows or lashes? It would be awesome if they stayed but I’m not sure I could be that lucky. That said, I would’ve thought that if they were going to come out then surely it would’ve started happening by now wouldn’t it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as ever!

Cheers,

Kelly

Hi Kelly

There is a good chance that you won’t lose them. I have had 7 chemos and still just about have my eyelashes and eyebrows and my hair is beginning to grow back, but that is on AC and Taxotere. My eyebrows gradually got fainter, I can still detect them, but they’re very sparse. Again my eyelashes have disappeared around the edges, but still have a few in the middle. they have gone really fair, so without makeup, you can’t see them, but I just about have enough that will show up with a good coating of mascara.

The chemo nurse said that as my hair is now growing back I am unlikely to lose them now, they should start to regrow. However a few people on here have told me they can disappear at any time, even after chemo has ended (sorry to be the bearer of that news!) However of the ladies having chemo at the same time as me only 1 has lost brows and lashes completely the other have, so far, just had a thinning.

Hope that answers your question. How have you taken losing your hair? Hope it’s not been too traumatic for you!

Take care Nicky

p.s. The hairs on my legs grew back first!! Just when I could have done with smooth hair-free legs for the summer!

Hi Kelly,

I have finished my epi and started on the CMF yesterday and both my eyelashes and eybrows are still there thank goodness. I have lost some of them, eybrows are very thin and eyelashes are far from what they used to be but with a bit of mascara on they’re great. I had a wedding last saturday and tried to wear false eyelashes but gave up on the 4th attempt - thanks goodness I had my few left to fall back on

Fingers crossed yours should stay.

Thanks ladies! Hi Nicky & Kelyn,

thanks very much for responding. I will be keeping everything crossed that at least some of the little blighters continue to stay put! I’ve always had to tug a bit when plucking my eyebrows so I reckon they’re tough cookies. Don’t mind so much if they thin cause at least I can use eye make-up on them. If they went completely I’m not sure how easy I would find it to draw them on!

Nicky, re;hair loss it was more traumatic than I could’ve ever imagined. Which is wierd really as I got my boyfriend to shave my hair off after my first epi in anticipation. After my second he took it down to a No1 so you would think that that would’ve prepared me but it didn’t really. I got very upset and really quite down. The timing couldn’t have been worse as it came out big time on my boyfriends birthday! I was determined not to cry on his day but couldn’t stop myself. I know it will grow back and of course I knew this at the time it was coming out but I still found it hard.

Anyhoo, onwards and upwards!

Kelyn - how did you find your first cmf? People have said that compared to epi it is a doddle so I’m interested to hear how you found it yesterday.

Take care ladies and thanks again,

Kelly

Hi Kelly Isnt it funny I lost all my hair on my head and was dreading losing my eyelashes, but they did all fall out and my eyebrows, even though they went thin never went completely. Both eyebrows and eyelashes are fully restored now 8 weeks after chemo

Take care

Diane

Hi kelly,

i should have added with the eyebrows that i haven’t had to pluck them for ages and i normally have to do this every other day so the ones I have lost are not growing back as yet but like you said I have enough so that when I use pencil I have a good guide to follow.

The CMF ‘seems’ to be going good so far. I actually felt a bit funny when it was going in my arm and i did have thoughts of ‘oh sh*t’ this doesn’t seem good but after leaving the hospital I have been fine only side effects really is very tired and a bit of heart burn - hope its not early days - I’ll keep you up to date with what happens
