Hi All

I’ve been doing well and have a fine head of hair since finishing chemo end of Oct. Now my eyelashes are falling out again, had anyone else had this?

Hi Cecelia

I remember you were “just behind me” in our treatment last year. I got my eyelashes back wonderfully after chemo but they did begin to thin again a couple months ago (I finished chemo at the end of August) They didnt go totally, just got a bit thinner. I wondered whether it was natural rhythm of losing hair - they came back together all at once rather than few by few so when some fall out (more than before bc) it seems more.

Mine are back to where they were before bc but not a thick as when they came back post chemo

Hi Cecelia

There is a thread on the Undergoing Treatment: hormone therapy, tamoxifen site about this problem. It’s got some interesting info and tips. I finished chemo in Aug 07 and my brows and lashes, having lost the lot, grew back but now are thinning again. I suspect it’s the Herceptin (only one to go) or the Letrozole. It’s nothing to be worried about - lots of ladies experience this. I just use make-up to fill in what’s not there. Hope this helps.

Hi Cecelia,

I finished Chemo in the early Summer of last year; was followed by three weeks of radiotherapy. Lashes and brows came back, fell out, came back,thinned, got back to normal and now eyebrows look weird.

So. par for the course I think - I’m not on Herceptin, so I guess it takes quite a while to get rid of the crap in your system once you’ve had chemotherapy.

Thanks all for this… It sounds normal, it’s a pain, I had such lovely long dark eyelashes and now they’re all stubby again! Harrumph!

To Harrumph! is good. I thought that this was a verb peculiar to my family. Trust that everything will come back and just when you have got used to it, it will all fall out again! Deep joy - but at least we take nothing for granted any more and eventually eye lashes and eyebrows will be back in their normal place-and be much valued. On a different note, feel somehwat re-assured of the potency of chemotherapy - if its still doing its damndest to irriatate us re eyebrows and eye lashes . goodness knows what it’s done to the crap that was trying to kill us!!!

So.only way is up!

Thanks Janeyb, that has really cheered me up! As long as the chemo is still killing my eyelashes, it’s probably still working on the horrible big C!
