Hi Ladies
I have been reffered to the family history clinic at my local breast clinic as 2 of my birth family have passed away from cancer.
I filled in the questionnaire a few weeks ago and i have got the appointment through today for the beginning of December.
Does anyone know what happens at the clinic? I cannot provide them with much more information as i’m adopted and have only been told that my birth grandmother died from bc and my birth mums sister died young from inflammitory breast cancer.
I’m worried enough about the pain i’m in at the moment without having this adding to my worries aswell.
Sorry for another ranting post.
Thanks ladies
Louise xx
Hi Louise
They will be able to tell you quite a lot of statistical information regarding the likelihood of a genetic risk based on the information that you have been able to gather. You don’t mention the age at which your grandmother was diagnosed, that will probably effect what statistical risk they calculate for you.
I don’t believe they will be able to offer genetic testing to you as they will require genetic material from someone who already has had cancer first for comparison.
However, you may be able to take part in a screening programme, which if you are at a higher risk, would catch it earlier.
Not sure where your clinic is - I went to the Royal Marsden and they were terrific.
Best of luck.
Caroline
