I had a DIEP surgery in February. All went well except my tummy button is taking a while to heal. I have a small granuloma and I’m treating that with advice from the Plastics Dressing Clinic.
A couple of days ago, I found a lump. It’s about an inch from my tummy button. Its the size, shape and texture of a marble. There’s no signs on the outside but can easily felt. It stings occasionally or there’s a pulling sensation.
I’ve informed my surgeon and he’s booked me in for the earliest appointment in August (6 week away).
I am certain this lump is related to surgery. It’s possibly fat necrosis. It could be related to the nearby granul.
The purpose of this post us to see what you would describe fat necrosis as feeling like? Does it match my description? Anyone had fat necrosis of the abdomen after a DIEP? What did your team do in way of tests? Did it change size?
Thank you ?
Thanks
I had a lump right after surgery. Still a little lumpy in fact down there. No one cares nor do I. I mean it’s to be expected somewhat considering everything they did. I did a lot of massage. The largest is gone. They were more concerned with my seroma down there then my fat lumps.
Hi Snookie,
Did you manage to find out what the lump was?
Hi Luskentyre1,
Saw GP yesterday, but was a very vexed conversation. She initially was going to refer me to general surgeon. Pointed out that I’m under Plastic Surgeon. She then said given history she’d refer me to Oncology surgeon. I said ok, but would speak to to my secretary of plastic surgeon. Then she said was not related to plastic surgery as nowhere near wound. I explained how extensive the operation was. In end she is writing a letter to breast clinic to ask for advice - despite saying that couldn’t refer me there as lump not in breast. So unsure how long that will take or what the outcome will be.
Told GP that I felt very confused and upset. I couldn’t see why we’re doing new referrals when I already have a consultant. Didn’t understand her logic at all.
I rung plastic surgeon secretary when I got home. So will wait and see what happens next.
All seems far too difficult and all for a lump that isn’t visible… Really feel like I’m causing a fuss now.
After speaking with the secretary(who spoke with plastic surgeon)…they think it’s most likely to be an umbilical hernia. I’m happy to wait until my appointment in August. They’ll probably fix it when I have my symmetry surgery in September.
Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you’re not in too much pain & it can be fixed soon
