@kitty77 How are you doing, darling? I read this thread just before bed last night and you are consequently on my mind. Sounds awful. I am sending you a big virtual hug. @Shi You are like a guardian angel. You have popped up on another thread and helped me in a wobble. Thank you. It’s lovely to have your voice of experience keeping an eye on us. (Bit of an oxymoron but you know what I mean!)
@healing24 I have been offered some laser tattoo eyebrows by someone who is the fiancee of a friend of a friend who feels sorry for me. She does have a really good beauty salon by the looks of it and wants to do it for free. It’s such a kind offer but it’s a 100 mile round trip and I’ve never really had eyebrows. I’m fearful that I will look like a big, bald egg with no lashes and two brown slugs on my face. If I feel well enough to go and do it (next EC on Thursday) then I might just take a leap into the unknown. I saw a jumper saying ‘Fighting Cancer, Going Through Chemo and Still This Sexy’. If they look ridiculous I will buy it and wear both with pride!
Love to you all and I hope you all get a decent Sunday whether it is a good one or a prone on the sofa groaning with one eye open one. (Yes…that was me last Sunday.)
Ha! I’m glad you’re feeling better as the days go by. My understanding is that we shouldn’t have any eyebrow treatments once we’ve started chemo due to the risk of infection. Apparently there are some great stick on eyebrows on Amazon etc. I think henna brows (not sure how to spell it) might be ok if it doesn’t involve breaking the skin and it’s just powder but the photos I’ve seen in other groups of the stick ons look fab.
Hi everyone, hope you’re all doing well and getting through the tough days. I had my second EC on Wednesday and it was awful again. The premeds are still making me sick and afterwards was just relentless. I feel like it’s hit me much harder this time round and still not able to muster up the energy to get dressed today. I’ve literally not moved from the couch in 5 days.
The tingling in my hands and dry mouth are definitely worse this time round.
I’m scalp cooling too but lots of shedding this last week. I’m sure I’ll have no hair left my next week!
I think I’m feeling a little bit sorry for myself today
Let’s hope tomorrow brings me the will to get dressed and get outside for a walk.
Salbert thank you we are all the same here a word of kindness from anyone might help someone somewhere that’s bcn a safe gentle invisible blanket of help, kindness, care and compassion do post a photo of the jumper and don’t forget to book on look good feel better at your trusts through your MacMillan centres Shi xx
you can get eyebrow stencils from Amazon and then dab through dark brown eyeshadow with a stiff brush to create eyebrows and if you draw a line on your top eyelid with an eye pencil it creates illusion of lashes but others have used magnetic eyelashes and fake ones too with great success Shi xx
I’m doing good today @salbert thanks for asking, just getting these tablets in and hopefully that will clear up my nasty looking tongue - I woke up through the night and had to peel my tongue from my teeth - my mouth was so dry but I think that was partly because I nodded off with my mouth open and snoring I was so tired - how attractive eh .
@sammybp hope you’re feeling better soon - the treatment is a b!tch but I keep imagining if I’m feeling rough then hopefully so are any cancer cells still in my system!!
I’m finding the forum such a help, from advice and knowledge of those that have got through treatment to just knowing that how I’m feeling is perfectly normal and sharing our experiences as we muddle through this awful time
If anyone finds some good eyebrow temporary tattoos, can you link them here? There are so many on Amazon and it’s hard to which ones are good. None of them get particularly good results and when I google I keep finding recommendations for ones which are only available in the US.
I haven’t tried them yet as I don’t think they stick very well to existing hair so I’m keeping them for when I do actually lose my brows - the website is a girl who suffers from alopecia so I think she makes and uses her own transfers.
Reviews are good and she has an Instagram account where you can see other ladies applying the transfers - they look quite straight forward to apply xx
Hi @kitty77 definitely speak to oncologist or nurse if you haven’t already. There is so much that your body is dealing with you want to help it as much as possible. For oral thrush difflam is quite good, 6 times a day, you can ask them to prescribe you some , I’ve had it with EC, it was doing my head in as it changed my taste buds. It takes about 3/4 weeks to come for me. All the best
Hiya with regards to the eyebrows. Anyone about to start chemo, you can get eyebrows microbladed. If you’ve started, best not to, it’s not recommended, due to high infection rush. But good eyebrows pencil would do. You don’t lose them all in one go, it’s goes progressively, at least it did for me xxx
Hi @sammybp when I got rough days, I was thinking every minute, hours that passes are getting me closer to recovery. PJ days or sofa days are well deserved days. It’s normal to feel sorry for yourself. What you’re going through is really tough.
Talk to your oncologist and tell them about your side effects
It was day 15 after having my first EC when I noticed that body hair started to shed. Then day 17 when my hair started to fall. Few strands but a lot of shedding compared to ‘normal hair fall.’ really difficult at first but I have few hair coverings incase this continues. I had cold cap on my first and will still continue it on my next cycle. I am hoping my bloods will be okay so can have the next EC on Thursday. xx
@healing24 Thanks so much for letting me know. I have cancelled the eyebrows appointment. I’m quite relieved actually as I’ve never had eyebrows that showed up so it probably would have looked odd.
@sammybp I am making the most of these last few days of feeling ok before my 2nd EC on Thursday. I just can’t believe it is cumulative and that you feel progressively worse. The 1st one was bad enough. Please let us know if you start to climb back up. In the meantime, love and hugs to you. Hang in there and know you are not alone.
@kitty77 Really great to hear that you are doing a bit better. Let’s keep sharing and cheering each other on. Thanks so much for the transfer brows link.
So…just to add to the white cowboy hat suggestion from my mother, I am beginning to suspect that my entire family are having a laugh at my expense. Either that or they are all nuts. I unwrapped a present posted to me by my cousin today. She has knitted me some blonde hair. Yes…you did just read that right. It looks insane. Like a bizarre, yellow, knitted Norman helmet. Oh dear, dear, dear…
I was supposed to have my second Docetaxol today but got a call from the nurse saying my Liver function test was elevated so unfortunately it will have to be put back a week.
It’s not uncommon apparently but just hope it comes down in time for next week . Fingers crossed .
Hope everyone who has been struggling is starting to feel better. .
How’s everyone getting on with hair loss? i’m day 21 post 1st treatment and no hair loss yet. I did cold cap but also know it’s early days yet. body hair is a different story altogether!
Day 16 post first EC and I’ve started to shed. It’s not noticeable yet when you look at me, but I’m leaving hair everywhere I go I attended a Headwrappers session today where they teach you different ways to tie headscarves (and other things about how to deal with chemo hair loss), so I now can sort of tie a headscarf without looking like a complete numpty. If anyone is interested, the link to sign up is here: https://www.headwrappers.org/services and they’ll send you a few free scarves before the session so that you’ll have something to practice with.
Went for my pre cycle 2 bloods.
Neutrophils were only 1.5 !!! Just enough to proceed
Does anyone know if you can have more than 5 days of filgrastim jabs, I’m just concerned I won’t make cycle 3 otherwise
@Vibby I’m sure there is a limit somewhere, but I had 7 days and still ended up in hospital with neutropenic sepsis so they gave me an extra and said they still might need to adjust after my next cycle. Going for my bloods today (infusion is supposed to be Friday) so fingers crossed my numbers will be back up.
Thankyou. I was just shocked mine were only just adequate after 1 cycle, and hoped they could offer something to prevent me being delayed on the next one.
