I hope your starts go as well as possible.
I wanted to share this study for those on taxol regimes like paclitaxel or the other one starting with a d
In the US it’s almost a given like the cool capping in most centres to use either compression gloves and socks or iced ones to prevent neuropathy.
The study shows no difference between the 2 so I’m going to do the compression. Brand doesn’t matter as long as the garments are 20-30mm hh.
Ask your hospitals if they offer this. I’m fortunate enough to have BUPA so my centre has the iced gloves but I haven’t yet asked about compression. They gave me compression socks post surgery so i suspect ut won’t be an issue.
I’ve found some much better priced options online if anyone would like some links and some cute designs for the socks.
Hi Sammybp thanks for messaging.
My first chemo was not half as bad I was expecting! It all went well, was there about 4 hours, my treatment is at Castle Hill, Hull (think you mentioned yours might be).
Looked after me really well.
Had my injection first then 30 mins later started the docetaxel which took about an hour and a half including flushing the line. Feel a bit groggy today but not bad in general. Relieved to get the first one done.
Very best wishes for yours too. Am rooting for us all xx
Happy Sunday all, can I ask if anyone is trying fasting during their treatment and if anyone has been given any food/diet recommendations? I’ve not had much from my oncologist but having read some of the other topic conversations I can see some people are fasting. I’m trying to think about the weight gain from the steroids too and what can help to try and maintain my usual weight.
I won’t be fasting. There’s no evidence base for it, and it will only weaken the body when it’s already going through a stressful experience. The risks of dehydration and nutritional deficiency including anaemia are real
I had nausea after breakfast today, which did pass after I took an anti-sickness pill that they sent me home with.
From tonight for 5 days I have to inject myself with Filgristim. I’m glad of this as it’s to keep white blood cells up and hopefully stay feeling ok for the first week
Generally I have felt better than I imagined I would. Been resting more over weekend. Hoping to feel ok to go to work tomorrow Xx
Hi ladies
I’ve done the hands and feet cooling and can confidently says that I had no issues with tingling or neuropathy. Bit a background, I had carpel tunnel, multiple trigger fingers ops and was disappointed to recovering from double trapezectomy!
I was treated privately and sadly it’s not everywhere in the UK.
Protect your tongue too, sucking in ice cube and frozen grapes.
Do you mean fasting fo religious reasons or fasting cause of chemo ?
Either or you’ll be fasting. Trust me. But neither for the le reasons you’ll ever thought it will be because the nausea hit you, or the meds made you feel sick. So make sure you eat little and often. Drink plentyyyyyy.
Steroids will be your blessing to counter act sickness and nausea. Maybe contact your chemo nurse to discuss any concerns food and diet/pills related.
All the very best
Ooo, what side effects are there for the tongue? I’ve heard about sucking ice or sweets but I think it was more in the context of nausea during treatment not tingling/neuropathy.
Thanks for posting this study, I start my chemo on Wednesday, 12 weeks of Paxel and I’m been really concerned about the risk of peripheral neuropathy. I’d be so grateful for any links you can share. I’ve looked on Amazon at the iced gloves and socks, but didn’t really know what to go for, any recommendations you have are welcomed.
@pinklilli3s, I’ll make sure to protect my tongue too, thanks for the heads up.
Start 12th Feb - but unsure which regime - I asked to still be considered for a ‘curative’ protocol after they found a single liver lesion. So it could either be EC + Paclitaxol + PHESGO; or the CLEOPATRA protocol for metastatic disease, which isn’t aiming to be curative (Docetaxol & PHESGO).
Hi Aross, hope you’re well.
My situation sounds similar to yours. I had 4 small liver mets show up on my scan. I am on the Cleopatra regime and had my first chemo and phesgo injection on Friday. Please let us know how you get on, best wishes x
your taste buds will change, the taxane (Pacli) drugs usually do that. Risk of mouth thrush but you’ll be given mouth wash and treatment if needs be. Ice is the best protection, before, 30 min, during and after. The nurse can advise. I usually started sucking when they put the cold cap and sleeves on that was telling.
some of us ladies in october chemo 23 who did not have the sleeves available at hosp, would then plunge their feet and hands once back home on cold icy water for a while. still better than nothing I guess

not sure about compression sleeves helping for neuropathy, worse checking for advice from nurse anyw ay, however it might help once symptoms arose . if you’re on a weekly regime nurses should check in your bloods and ask about any new sides effects. It changed every week for me, but nausea and constipation, thrush were the resident friends I never wanted to have sadly lol. whatever happens, talk to your nurse and take the LAXATIVES

Sending you best wishes, strength, love, will be wishing you well and please let us know how you are when you feel up to it. Remember we’re in this together, not alone Xx
Hi,
I start X3 EC and X3 Docetaxal on 15th February.
Hoping for a reply from a small breasted lady like myself.
I had a wide excision on the 19th December and my breast where they excised the tumour is still really hard. When I saw my surgeon at 5 weeks she said it was at the “hard” stage, what I want to know is when dies it gets softer ??
I massage bio oil into it every day “with my teeth gritted” but still rea6hard
Thank you!
The study for the ixed gloves and socks had half participants using compression gloves and socks and it found no difference between the two other than that participants tolerated the compression better than the ice so I’m going to try how I get on with just the compression at first and see if I need to add the ice.
Had my portacath fitted yesterday. It’s pretty intense as I was awake with no sedation but it’s ok and so much better to not hang around after waiting for the sedation to wear off a bit.
What a warrior you are!!! I regretted not being completely under for the port it was so painful for me but that’s because am hyper sensitive. Even getting my eyebrows microbladed made me cry after two paracetamol! I need usually double dose of lidocaine every op.
I hope your chemo goes well. Remember the ice for your tongue and take it easy xx
Hi Charlie, had my first round of EC yesterday and so far feeling ok. Although could just be the steroids! All the team were fantastic and I felt really cared for. I think now they really work to mitigate against as many side effects as they can with all the meds. Xx
