Well done @Vibby, it’s tough but you’ve done the first. I agree with the cold cap statement and I was tempted too but didn’t. I’m on day 10 and hair loss as yet
Hope you manage a good nights sleep and don’t feel too bad tomorrow x
Hi All,
I thought I’d give on a update which may hopefully be encouraging to those yet to start. I had my first round of EC out of 4 on 8th Feb so it’s been jist over a week. I’ve literally had no symptoms to write home about. I’ve been hydrating lots. No sickness. I stopped my 1 anti-sickness on day 3 as I felt it was starting to cause constipation. I went to the loos every day. Later than my usual regular schedule but I’m now back to normal.
No fatigues at all and I even went to the gym yesterday and I had tickets for Plaza Suite in London today which I went to no problem.
I’ve been sleeping well. Eating well. I actually think my appetite has increased as in I’m actually hungry in the mornings rather than my usual later breakfast. I’ve moved from a yoghurt with berries to scrambled eggs and spinach - I’m just listening to what my body feels like eating so I guess my tastes are evolving but not going off food.
I noticed some slight discomfort in my hip bones for a few minutes in bed but that passed.
I hada headache at some point on the first evening -probably cold cap related but I sipped on peppermint tea and breathed deeply and it passed in 20 minutes.
I really hope my next 3 sessions go this well. I’m sure there’s a cumulative effect as the chemo in my system builds up amd of course I have no idea how the 4 paclitaxel will be after the 4 EC but so far chemo has not stopped me in my tracks. The morning after I woke up and felt I could’ve gone to a spin class but I obviously didn’t. I’ve just gone out for walks pretty much every day apart from my gym day and West End day.
I hope you all have manageable symptoms and definitely keep drinking. I drunk about 2-3 litres of water a day pre chemo and I’m sure I was on 4-5 litres during the first 5 days. Maybe more - I just know I drink a lot and then some more ha
Morning
I don’t start my chemo until 26th Feb but it is very encouraging reading the posts of all of you that have started and are getting through it well.
Xx
Hi Vibby,
Thank you for checking.
Everything went well yeaterday. A total of 5 hours in the chemo unit including cold capping and waiting times. No drugs reaction and they gave me fluids whilst doing the 3rd stage of my cold capping- just to give it a flush the nurse said. It was quite draining yesterday-I guess it’s my first but glad I had some good support from my friends who works in the hospital too.
I read your update in here. I hope you are okay too. It’s our first day after chemo. So far, I am okay. Disturbed sleep as I kept going to the toilet to pee.
Meds given as well for 2 days and sub cut injection for 5 days for white blood cells. x
Hi Kitty,
I know it’s really worrying especially as it is the first session. But stay positive, it helps. We will get through this.
I had my first chemo on EC yesterday + cold capping.
I just had my breakfast now and is drinking a lot of fluids.
Have a good day!
I’ve had breakfast and felt ok eating but now conked out on the sofa. Definitely the metallic taste thing. Feel just knackered and muzzy headed. Plus bowels can’t decide which way to go
First thing this morning thought I’d be bored as cleared my diary now thinking thank god I did !!!
Same here Charlie1: triple positive with mets and on same regime as you. I started yesterday. So far so good (only experienced a bit of constipation & altered taste … like my tongue has been dipped in lidocaine or something. Not severe at all and still drinking water). Good luck for your treatment; maybe we can compare notes!
Hi Ross24, thank you, it’s lovely to hear from you and absolutely we can compare notes!
How are you feeling today?
I have my second chemo on Fri 23 Feb. My first was 2 Feb, so am a little bit ahead of you. Hope it’s ok to talk about hair. My daughter helped shave my head yesterday, after my hair was shedding a lot this week and my head was sore and itching. We made it a postive experience and I feel so much better and ready to embrace the headscarves and wigs now.
Best wishes for your treatment too, please let me know how you are doing
Just did the weirdest food shop with my hubby. It reminds me of being pregnant, some things you really fancy others can’t bare the thought of.
Fancy strong sharp fruity flavours.
Bought Haribo Tangfastics !!! Sorbet ice cream and fish pie !!! Weird. Have a feeling stuff you want one day you won’t want the next !!!
Made me think about how hard it must be on a limited income, to have extra nice things to make you feel better
Count my blessings. And settle down in the sofa with my Haribo xx
I start my chemo on Thursday. Trying not to think about it too much, feeling really quite scared and anxious, and worried about how I’m going to cope. Triple negative, some spread to lymph nodes too. Had my port fitted last week.
I’ll be having Paclitaxel weekly and carboplatin 3 weekly along with pembrolizumab (immunotherapy). Not going to try the cold cap as I’d have to travel an hour away to do so, so prepared to lose my hair (I think).
Mostly hoping side effects aren’t debilitating as I’m a single mum of an 8 year old - I want to be able to drive her to school, make dinner and still hang out and do fun things
Any thoughts or feelings on how much we should stay away from crowded places.
Would love to go to the pub next week for the soul DJ night day 10 1st cycle EC. Thinking should I book a table so I can sit down and give it a go or is too crowded and risky re infection !!!
Dunno, really unsure on this one ??? I feel it’s mood v infection risk. If I was definitely neutropenic by then I wouldn’t consider it, but it’s early in my cycles and before my 1st lot post cycle bloods ???
Hi @averley2024, sorry to hear you’re in the gang! Try and prepare as much as possible before hand to help afterwards with any side effects.
If you’ve read everyone’s comments n here we’ve all experienced something different from no real side effects to some not so nice stuff.
Speak to your breast nurse and see if there’s any support in your area.
Wishing you all the luck in the world for Thursday and sending hugs
Hi @Vibby, I went to a birthday party last night. I felt well enough and just sat at a table away from the bar and dance floor. Didn’t eat any of the buffet food and drank with a straw.
Personally, I needed some normality and my nurse was very encouraging but of this and didn’t have any concerns.
If you do decide to go, enjoy it and have a fab time x
Thank you.
I think that’s what’s so hard - it’s completely unknown! My breast nurse was lovely but I literally can’t predict how I’m going to respond.
Trying to make the most of the next few days before it all starts to get things sorted - did my budget today, have packed all the bits I’ll need to take into chemo with me. It’s just more waiting
I’m 3 days after 1st EC (post op triple neg). So far it’s been ok. I have the luxury of not having to do much at all.
I prepped a lot !!!
I’d say just make sure you take all the steroids and anti emetics you’re given. They’re pretty heavy duty but I don’t want to imagine what the nausea and vomiting would be like without them.
I think there’s definitely something about having enough to do, I suspect I don’t have enough to do which makes me more inclined to lounge around !!!
Weirdest thing so far is the cravings and metallic taste.
Good luck, you’ll be grand xxx
It’s definitely a personal choice. I took the train and tube to London to watch Plaza Suite at the theatre exactly a week after my first EC. I wore a mask on the tube and just paid attention to my body during the next 72 hours. I had strepsils ready and when I sneezed once I was straight onto my hot water with squeezed lemons and honey
I felt absolutely fine post chemo and leading up to the day, which helped my decision to not give up my ticket. Am sure things might have been different if I were on round 6.
We’ve got tickets for Peter Kay at the O2 in May, when I’ll be several cycles in. We’ve waited more than a year to see him. Guess I’ll just have to see how I feel and what blood’s are doing closer to the time.
I’ve not started chemo yet and I’ve got a Michael McIntyre show in April. I also had a cruise booked in May but we have now delayed this to October just to be safe.
Hi everyone, i’m 6 days post 1st Docetaxol. All went well on the day, nurses was lovely and I felt really looked after. Cold cap was fine after about 15 mins but i’m going to be more prepared next time. Much warmer clothes to come home in! Took me all the next day to warm up.
I felt a bit spaced out and dizzy the first few days after treatment but the main side effect for me has been digestive issues. I already suffer with IBS so think it may have aggravated that. stomach cramps amd frequent toilet visits. oh the joys! will mention it to the nurses before my next one.
Iv got a big pink tick on the calendar next to my first treatment date and im going to continue ticking them off as i go along. Hope you are all doing ok. lots of love
.
We had a Norwegian fjord’s cruse booked for May !! We had to cancel and still waiting to hear whether I can roll it to May next year.
Couldn’t find another date this year for the fjord’s that was after chemo and radiotherapy. Didn’t want to risk it in case my treatment plan slips by a few weeks.
So frustrating xx
