Well that’s another one ticked off the ‘things to do’ list. Went up for 12.30 today and saw the Doctor first before the chemo. As I am on a relatively new combination 3xFEC then 3x or 6x Taxotere, they want me to see the Doctor every time I go…anyway she examined me and said she thought the lump had already shrunk and it felt better and not so hard - so I am quite chuffed about that.
Then onto the treatment, took my Mum so she could see it wasn’t as scary as she thought…she did well not to laugh when they rammed the cold cap down on my head!! Veins fine, bloods fine. Just had my tea and so far OK. Last time it was day 2 and day 3 when I felt rough so I am prepared with ginger everything and Kelly’s recommended travel sickness bands.
Went to my brother-in-law’s wedding at the weekend in Cardiff and we had a fab time, sort of forgot about everything temporarily…stayed in dead nice hotel and as it was our wedding anniversary yesterday had brekkie in bed (with 2 kids - nort romantic!!) and then had a couple of hours in the Spa, heaven. Still got quite alot of hair too - but left quite a bit behind in the hotel room…the cleaners will defo earn their money this weekend!!!
Hope you are all OK - how are you Alison, Muddy, JulieG after your Friday sessions?
It’s good to take people into the room, I have had a couple of mates collect me each time (as they can’t come into the room for the whole treatment) and it’s good for them to see that it’s not that scary, in fact it’s quite upbeat (in mine anyway).
And, same with me, the lump had shrunk before I had the 3rd and it was much softer. Such a relief that its working.
Sent you message on “The first one done” glad no 2 ok. I had no 2 Fri thank god that’s another one done can’t believe how quickly it came round! Had that nausea feeling pretty much all weekend and still a bit iffy today but we will see how it goes today! Hair completely gone now but dealing better with it than I thought. Hope you feel ok
Love
JulieG
Glad you managed to get your number 2s done as well. You are both sounding upbeat. Glad the wedding went well Ali and you managed to get away from it all with the family - can’t beat it!
I don’t feel as bad as I remember the first time - think it’s the not knowing what to expect at number 1. I’ve been doing the ginger things & travel bands and thankfully just felt sick - but not actually been - my major fear too Julie! Tiredness as expected but again not as bad I think from the 1st one - think I’ve managed the steroids better than last time - took them about 4pm day after FEC 1, told afterwards not my best idea. Limited it to 2pm this time, seems better.
Not ventured out yet but it’s raining cats & dogs here and kids at Grandma’s so I ain’t going nowehere!!!
I’ve just got some tufty bits of hair now, like you Julie, don’t seem to be falling out. Not sure if they’ll go in a few weeks like the last lot though.I seem to have ‘new’ hair at the back which is stuck in good & proper, not sure what that’s all about. Have either of you lost eyebrows or lashes yet? How long’s that meant to take, any ideas?
Hi I have never used forums before but felt I wanted to say that I have had FEC and had my last lot of Taxotere this Thursday. there is light at the end of the tunnel. I feel a lot better this time, maybe it is because I don’t have to have any more. Good Luck with your treatment.
Just crawled out of bed for some ginger beer - oh the excitement! Need to eat something and then have more steroids. I feel really rough and much worse than last time. The Domperidone only seems to get rid of the nausea for about 45 mins, I’m gonna see how I am laterr and maybe see if I can get something else to take.
Thanks for thought Susanjr, nice to know it’s ‘doable’ as they say.
Alison - I am losing the odd eyebrow here and there, but no eyelashes yet. Armpits and leg hair has stopped growing…hey-ho, every cloud and all that. Hope you continue to feel better, you too Julie.
Hi again, I had problems with sickness as well and the onc gave me ondansetron melt which helped. I didn’ like the taste of them (you put them on your tongue and they melt) but they worked and we all have different taste buds. I know when i was first diagnosed that i thought i might go off chocolate (that would be a good thing so i would loose weight) and the bc nurse said you could never go off chocolate. it does taste funny to me and i don’t eat as much. i haven’t lost all my eyelashes and having had the operation in between the different chemotherapy hair and eyelashes do come back, i just seem to be loosing them again, but i do know they’ll grow back. My 9 year old son has plans for my wig when i have finished with it i just don’t dare ask what.
bye
sue
you’re doing great!!! Another one down. Sorry to hear you are feeling a bit rougher than last time, are you having any ondansetron at all? I’m hoping my tip of travel bands will help, they certainly helped me no end last weds when I got home from my second day 1 CMF and felt v.queasey. I’m off for my day tomorrow morn and not overly lookin forward to it as I felt quite sick last week when I got home which is v.unusual for me.
I hope your side effects are minimal and the nausea doesn’t trouble you too much. Take it easy and don’t expect too much of yourself,
Feeling a bit more lively now, thanks for your messages.
I was actually sick earlier which I didn’t have last time, so I spent the afternoon in bed watching a film and feeling a bit better now, at least I made it downstairs anyway!!!
Good luck tomorrow Kelly, hope it’s better this week - poor you having to go every week, that sucks!
