Feeling a bit overwhelmed

Hi everyone

I may have posted this twice. I apologise if I have.

I haven’t been here for a while. I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer with no lymph node involvement 3 years ago. I had a lumpectomy and 5 days radiotherapy and put on Letrozole for 5 years

I have my 3 year check tomorrow however since making the appointment I have had pneumonia. I was also invited to take a lung cancer screening scan even though I was feeling quite poorly. They found a small nodule n my lung..they said it was undetermined and they would do a re scan in 3 months. They also saw something on 1 of my kidneys and have referred me to the renal unit at my local hospital. I have no other details. I am so worried that the cancer has spread. I know worrying won’t change the outcome whatever it is .I just feel a bit overwhelmed. Has anyone had similar situation

Hi @catperson,

I’m so sorry to hear what you’re going through - and I think it’s completely understandable that you’re feeling overwhelmed. I really hope you’re able to get some answers soon and that they’re the answers you want - in the meantime if you want someone to talk to you can reach our nurses on our free helpline 0808 800 6000. You can stay on the phone to them for as long as you need, and talk through your worries with them which you might find helpful while you wait.

I’m so sorry once again, hopefully someone can share their experience with you and it brings a bit of comfort.

Sending love,

Alice

I had a CT scan after my diagnosis of breast cancer in 2023 that showed some kind of lung nodule.

I have had several scans now. When I spoke to the consultant at one visit he told me that the CT imaging is showing up various very small “things” in lungs that are not actually a problem. It just takes a while to see if the thing is stable or not.

It may be that it was an artefact of your pneumonia. I had a bit of a cough when I had one scan and that showed up as a shadow on the other lung.

Fingers crossed that yours is something of the kind.

Well…a little bit of good news..i had my 3 year mammogram and scan and all was well.

Pneumonia has improved greatly.

Still waiting for referral to Renal Dept and waiting 3 months to redo lung scan.

Trying to deal with one thing at a time.

Well that is good news and hopefully the other things will unrelated anomalies. As you say the lung one was probably pneumonia related. Try not to worry about it until you have to. I know that’s easier said than done when your body has already gone rogue once.

Just had phone call from renal unit. They compared the recent kidney scan to one done 3 years ago…the cyst was there then(which noone told me about) and there has been no change so they’ve categorised it as a simple cyst….so relieved
