Feeling anxious

Last day at work tomorrow then Thursday have wires inserted so they can see calcifications at lumpectomy then the blue dye treatment and day surgery Friday.  Its an early stage do should all be ok but still feeling anxious as then the wait as will be testing lymph nodes.  Any tips ladies, have new outfit for hospital and pyjamas (button top) in case I have to stay overnight.  Ten years to the day since my hysterectomy so taking bets for 2025!

Don’t panic about the blue wee and the green pooh, they pass!! Blue boob is a little harder to come to terms with but that may be gone anyway with your op.

Don’t use deodorant and be prepared to be a little whiffy for a while - don’t use soap initially either.

You’ll get through it and be fine

Just have positive thoughts and keep smiling

Had a lumpectomy a few weeks ago and I ended up staying in overnight. Worst part was that they could only offer me one of their trademark dry, slightly frozen sandwiches, so I’d advise taking a snack/juice/fruit maybe. And possibly a phone charger?
Waiting for results is horrible - I have ranted a bit on this forum which definitely helps. I’ve also tried to make sure I have something planned for each day, just to pass the time, plus a stack of DVDs! And slow it may be, but the time does pass eventually.
Good luck

Hi blossom,

Take a book to read or have music on your phone. I was the last of 3 on the surgery list so although the morning was busy with radiation injection and wire insertion I was sat waiting by my bed from 11am to 2.45.

I almost stayed in as I was quite a while in recovery but walked very slowly and wobbly to the car at 8.15pm. As Mac says, if I had stayed in (I had a bed ready in case) who knows what delights I would have been offered.

Button top pj is a good idea. Likewise wear a blouse. I went in wearing a long sleeve tunic top and obviously hadn’t thought that through. My fella brought in a skirt and blouse for my departure.

And, not knowing your home life, maybe have a selection of easy, quick, soft meals for the next few days. 1st time my mouth/throat was bruised from the breathing tube. Chilli on the second day home wasn’t a brilliant idea. 2nd time in I had no problems (small amount of extra margin required).

Thinking of you… And good luck keeping busy while waiting for the results.

I had a mx and my inspired buy was a wrap so that I didn’t have to wrestle with coat sleeves and my drains. It has been perfect and actually made me feel quite glam even if my 19yr old son calls it my cancer cape. I found a cheap one on amazon as I didn’t know if it would be a success and it was worth every penny. Also make sure you have lots of comfy pillows so that you can get comfortable in bed and on the sofa.

I hope it goes  well for you

Hi Blossom,

I’m not sure if you’re staying in hospital overnight or not but I would take some small change with you for the coffee machines just in case and £5/£10 or cash card so you can use the machine on the ward to buy one of the cards to operate the television.  It is surprisingly boring to be stuck in overnight and it’s almost impossible to sleep/read because of all the noise

The other thing I found helpful was a bottle of soft drink as my throat was a bit sore from the breathing tube they use during surgery.  Well, I had a big bag of liquorice too but that was just greed on my part!  By 6ish in the morning I was bored witless, in desperate need of hot strong coffee and food so I staged a breakout and wandered down to the Cafe Nero on the local high street in my jimjams, slippers and coat.  I think they must be used to it as they didn’t bat an eyelid :womanlol:

Hope it goes well

xx

I was fortunate i didnt have to stay in overnight, often not necessary with a lumpdecotomy, I live alone but a friend said i could stay at hers which i did for first night,  I really didnt have any problmes, i didnt have much pain, came round from op pretty quickly with no problem and was sitting up in bed eating toast and drin king tea bout half hour later,  Wore a v necked jumper could slip on and off.   Was fortunate that they took all my lymth nodes there and then as first was suspect, i was happy with that.  Its  nearly 2 mths now, my arm still feels slightly different but its healed well i do my exercises and it seems ok. ive hardly asny scar where lump re,moved and my boob looks fine.  My other nodes were clear so no chemo thankfully,on tamaxifen waiting for rads. I had operation for hysterectomy 7 years ago and honestly that was worse.

I didnt use deodorant until it had healed under arm but whether because nodes gone i dont know but i defiinitely wasnt whiffylol. there didnt seem to be any smell, i did wash everything i wore each time though. Now use a paraben free deodarant.  My friend i stayed with  whos family has the BR gene and who in fact had her own breasts removed for prevention told me she always uses pareben free one so will i now.june.
