Hi Joanne76
Firstly welcome to the the BCC forums. I am sorry to read of your diagnosis and that you’re having a tough time at the moment. Whilst you wait for the other users to reply with their knowledge and experiences you might find it helpful to give the helpline a call and talk things through with a member of staff. Here you will be able to to share your feelings and concerns with someone who will offer you a listening ear as well as emotional support and practical information. Lines are open today 10 to 2pm and weekdays 9 to 5pm and the number to call is 0808 800 600.
Best wishes Sam, Facilitator
Hi Joanne - Yes it can feel numb and/or painful dependant on how much tissue was taken and whether they damaged any nerves - particularly if you also had nodes removed. I had all mine taken away and underarm and the top/back of the same is arm is numb and I still can’t feel a thing there due to nerve damage. You should do the exercises they suggest though - gently a first and you should get normal movement back. The waiting for results is the very worst time - the Dx is bad enough and then to have surgery and then have to wait again is torture - I know I tended just keep thinking about it and the very worst scenario and the ifs and buts and drove myself mental with worry. I know its hard but try to do things to distract yourself from thinking - there is nothing you can do until you get the results and treatment plan - and worrying about something that may not happen is a waste - but if its any consolation you are normal and we all go through the same. I am now 4 and a half years since my DX but I still remember the desolation I felt when first diagnosed its a horrid time and hugs to you. Its not that long to Thursday and once you have the results you will be back in control of this nasty horrid disease - be thinking of you xxxxx
Hi, Joanne
I had my lumpectomy and snb 9 days ago and my breast still feels numb in places. I’m told that’s quite common. Like you, I’m waiting for my results - no date yet - and yes, it’s scary and worrying. At least here we can find people who undestand exactly how we feel because they’ve been through it.
Sending you positive thoughts.
