Feeling frightened

Hi All

I have recently had lumpectomy and SNB only one node taken which came back positive now set to have an ANC in a months time. I am grade 3 lump 3.1cms er positive and her2 negative. Feeling very low about things and wondering if anyone can offer any advice? Thank you in advance.

Hi Bookie,

Welcome to BCNow. It is entirely natural at this point to be feeling scared, and I think its ok to allow yourself to feel that way. You go into the surgery very hopeful that the sentinel node will come out as clear and then you can move forward to the next treatment stages, which in your case (and in the case of very many others!) isn’t the path its taken.

In the weeks leading up to surgery you will have spent time adjusting to your diagnosis and processing it, and now, I’m sure, it all feels up in the air again and is frightening you as to what your new prognosis and treatment plan might ,and of course you are facing more surgery with the ANclearance.

If I had any advice to give it would be to reach out to those who have stood in similar shoes to yours before you, and have navigated their way through. They will know and remember the feelings and turmoil and have practical suggestions for how to psychologically manage things. You have started doing that, by coming to this forum :slightly_smiling_face: There is no need to feel alone.

I personally didn’t have ANClearance, but there are plenty here who have and if you do a search on the ‘Diagnosed with BC’ pages you will find threads about it. I would also suggest looking into the ‘Someone like me’ programme, where you can be matched with someone who has had a similar diagnosis to yourself and is further down the line…

Below is the link to the main website support page, where there are all sorts of support mechanisms availiable. I have to say that I’ve not used the ‘support app’, but it looks interesting and I might have to test it anyway to see what it does.

Please be assured that you are most certainly not alone in finding out that you need this futher surgery, and support is there for all those questions and fears you have. Obviously you will have seen the massive great telephone number at the top of the website, but do remember you can call at any time and talk through with them anything that you need to. Clarity will come and things will feel better as time ticks on. You will also come to realise that so many have gone before you and been successfully treated and so many thousands are in your exact position right now - its a lonely place at times when you are in your own head, but everyone is out here ready to help.
