Feeling lost

Sorry, never been on a forum before, but then finding I am doing a lot things I have never done before just lately. I had a routine mamogram on the 24th July, was recalled 2 weeks later, there were 2 lumps on the picture, they took biopsys and I went back last Thursday for results, he told me I have stage 2 BC, that i would need an operation within next 4 weeks and they would take some of my lymph nodes as well, then I go back and might have to have another operation then radiotheropy. I have no idea what type it is I didnt ask. I know this is really silly but I dont know how I feel, one min I feel like nothing is wrong and like I did before, then suddenly I feel so low it hurts. I sometimes just wander in the nights round the house, I just feel lost. Does that make sence?

Hi Peanut57, what you are saying makes perfect sense. It is a horrible time and a shock to go from well to diagnosis so quickly. I found that once I had gone through surgery I calmed down a bit. This forum is great because everyone here understands how you are feeling and you can get loads of practical advice and support. Best of luck with your treatment xx

Welcome to the forum Peanut ! What you have described is exactly how all of us felt when first diagnosed .Its such a shock when you have no symptoms also .I was diagnosed after my second routine mammogram. The good news is that most cancers detected in this way are at an early stage and very treatable .There is lots of support and advice here from people who understand .Its a sanity saver !Please feel free to ask any questions and join in any of the threads for a chat .Jill.

Yep, makes absolute sense. Things feel surreal for a bit after diagnosis, and there is so much new information and technical stuff to take in that the brain gets a bit overloaded too. It sounds as though yours would be at an early stage as it was picked up by a routine mammo, and surgery, including removing a node/nodes, then radiotherapy, tends to be the treatment route  a lot of us have gone down, though obviously your treatment plan will be personal to you. Take it steady and have a chat with your breast care nurse that should have been assigned to you, when you feel ready for more information as to what type you have etc.Like learning a foreign language.  Use this site for any worries and queries and be assured that BC is one of the most easily treated of the cancers because there are so many different ways to treat it, dependant on the type, so you are in the system now and in good hands. A day at a time. xxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Peanut
Just wanted to echo the others and say welcome and we all know how you feel. I wandered around in a daze for a few weeks while the rest of the world carried on without me! I also felt much better after surgery, because then you know it’s gone.
Sending best wishes.

That sounds perfectly normal to me with where you are at the moment.  We all know exactly how you are feeling and it is totally natural, you are having to take in a lot of information.  I remember thinking at one point how could I have cancer I dont feel ill, went through the fear, then the anger and then the resoltion to beat it.

Have you had your had your treatment plan yet?  You can always give your breast care nurse a call and go through things with her, she will put it into laymans terms for you.

As the other ladies have said it is good that it was picked up through your mammo, that means it was doing its job, and usually means it has been caught early and treatable.

Give yourself time to take in what has happened, go at your own pace in terms of what you want to know and when.  We are all here for you and there is generally someone around at all times of the day and night so you will never be short of help and support on here.  Ask any questions that you want and we will try to answer them, if we can not then the lovely nurses on here should be able to.

Sending you a hug

Big hugs peanut. it’s a horrible shock to deal with. I found it particularly difficult in that I never felt ‘ill’ at all. It’s amazing how resilient we are when something like this happens. deep breaths love, Jacqui

I want to say thank you all so very much, I thought I was going a little crazy, it has eased my mind knowing it is normal to feel this the way i am doing.

I am as you all say feeling well and I have never had to have a opperation when I feel well, it all seems so strange.

I have my pre operation assesment on Tuesday and then the operation I was told will be most likely 1st week in October.

I do have a breast care nurse just i dont like to bother her, and I have seen my surgeon, so now just waiting on that operation. I think it is something to do with my hormones as he said i would have to take a hormone pill. I will ask at some point  what type it is appart from stage 2 but at the min I am too scared to ask. All I know is one is 10mm and the other one is tiny.

I want to thank you all again as even though i have such lovley friends and a supportive family I have also felt so very lonely, now after reading the forums I know I am not alone anymore. xxxx

Hi Peanut ,it’s hard to take in all the information at first ,best just process in dribs and drabs if you can .Great that you have supportive friends and family but as you say quite hard for them to understand how it feels .

Hi Peanuts

Sending you lots of hugs. Don’t worry too much about taking it, you will get copies of letters which is sent to your GP from your surgeon, regarding the findings of the biopsys plus the possible outcomes of operation & lymph nodes etc.

I was diagnosed on the 8th June, had my operation on the 13th July, with wire localisation of the lesions and a sentinel node biopsy, recovered well from the op. When I went back for my results on the 2nd August, because I didn’t get clear margins, it meant another op on the 10th August, again recovering well, the result came back on the 25th with the news of clear margins and I could go on to next stage of treatment. Now waiting to see the oncologist for my first appointment on the 15th September. It has been hard going, try to keep an open mind, with postive thoughts and make sure you take someone with you as extra support for yourself, plus another ear for listening, perhaps might pick something up you missed.

Love Peggyxxx
