Feels like a long wait for chemo

Hi

I’m IDC Grade 2 multiple foci largest 22mm, DCIS high grade 60mm, ER+, HER2-

I was diagnosed in May. Had a mastectomy and Sentinel lymph note biopsy on 29th June. Node was positive.  Had an axillary node clearance on 2 Aug, this was all clear.  Oncotype 27 so need Chemo.

My first appointment with Oncologist is not till the 29th September. It seems like such a long time away. I can imagine it will be a couple of weeks after for chemo to start after that (if me and family stay Covid free…)  I know the waiting lists are so long but I just wondered if others had experienced similar wait times? I have asked to go on a cancellation list but not holding out much hope!

Just looking for some reassurance!  Thank you :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi NoBoob

Actually, I talk about being monoboobed. I’m still acknowledging I’ve got one left and am fairly unbalanced as I haven’t worn a bra in months!.

This is a very scary time for you and you are right to feel worried. The NICE recommendation is that there should be no longer than 90days between the diagnosis (taken I believe from the date of the surgery) and commencing chemotherapy. It may be worth ringing one of the nurses (number above) and they can advise you what to do but I’d say your team are cutting it a bit fine. The pandemic doesn’t change the NICE recommendation so do your sums and then ring and enquire. I had my first chemo Christmas Eve 2018 because otherwise I’d have missed that window - needless to say, no celebrations in my household lol)

Of course it might mean they’ve decided not to go down the chemo route but you need to know, regardless. I hope you get some clarification xx
