Hi
Just could do with a bit of advice… Really don’t know what to do for the best…
I was dx with bone mets July 2010 2 spots pelvis and rib… Hv had loads of treatment am I’m doing well… In 2008 I fell down stairs in a major way!!! Didn’t go to an a&e about my body although I was in agony but went with my arm as completely crushed my finger!!! So when I had bone scan for mets dx although am sure it is cancer a tiny bit of me thinks some of it could be my injury as well as mets. I hv heard so many stories… basically if you don’t hv a biopsy you can’t be 100% it is all mets… However my onc is pretty sure and so am I.
My problem is… I’ve only gone and done it again!!! From top to bottom… This time smashed my head and I’m pretty sure I’ve broke my rib… This was 10 days ago… Still got bit of a headache, but lot better than I was and can walk abt now… What I’m worried abt is when I come to hve my cat and bone scan again in september if I hv done some damage what will happen if medical team not sure if it is the accident or progression??
It’s that 1% of uncertaintity that’s worrying me. Or am I being paranoid and silly?!?!??
Thought I would ask you ladies as you will understand why I am worried mainly from the scan viewpoint not the fact I’ve knocked myself into tomorrow!!!
By the way didn’t hv a g&t in my mitts (i wish!!!)just wearing a very new pair of pumps!!!
Love as always txxx
Mackers I think it might be a good idea if you have a word with your onc team and tell them what has happened. Maybe they will suggest bringing your scans forward from September that way it would save you worrying until September and maybe it is better done sooner. I don’t know - but they will. Normally at bone scans they do ask you if you have had any injuries or falls.
It must have been so scary for you falling all the way down the stairs. Hope your bruising etc. is o.k. I think I would have been in touch with the hospital straight away though.

Hi Mackers did not think for a min you may have broken your glass falling down the stairs. Sounds really painful.I am not a secondariws gal but you must get an opinion before Sept. Surely you are not paranoid but you need the options explained. So that you can exactly know what is your base line is of now.So sorry I can not help further but hope someone with more knowledge posts soon for you Jxx also living in the same town as you
Oh I hope you feel better soon. I would mention the exact area before your scan.
I fell crashing down on an icy pavement a couple of winter’s ago…several years into my bone mets diagnosis…but all was, felt ok…thanks, I think, to bisphosphonates. I would have thought your Onc would take the whole of your scan into account and would be able to tell injuries from progression…Now don’t do it again! xx
Hi
Tnx for ur replies. I feel soooo stupid. I think my main problem is it’s more than an area it’s both sides of my ribs and my pelvis and my head!!! I’m not bothered abt pain my painkillers doing v good job… But after reading ur replies there is only one conclusion tell the onc properly, who is lovely and prob won’t be at all surprised I’ve nearly managed to break everyone bone in my body thro some freak accident (laugh out very aloud)!! I prob do need a new base line scan…
Tnx again things clearer in my mind your very understand with me… Just for the record I am very clumsy by nature these things always seem to happen to me!!! I have the demure and grace of an intellectually challenged womble sometimes!!!
Will let you know how I go on…
Love txxxx
Hello Mackers, sorry to read about your fall, and hope you are not in pain.
In answer to your question, medics can differentiate between a hot spot caused by injury, and that caused by C. I have bone mets (in my skull), and fractured two vertabrae in August 2010 (also due to a fall). My medical team referred me for an MRI,because they were concerned the C may have spread to my spine, and they could tell the fractures were caused by injury rather than C (my understanding is they can tell by whether the fracture started from the anterior or posterior- but don’t quote me on that).
Hope that reassures you.
Hi Lemongrove,
Tnx for advice, I had same with my back turned out to be wear and tear, but it was just I could do without all the testing, hv had enough of hosp for a bit. I thought that although they can tell injuries and cancer due to density of uptake of bone scan… They can’t be 100% without a biopsy…
Am fine at the moment on tramadol!!! Happy happy!!
Did you read that Elizabeth died on the other board very very sad I had emailed her and then saw yans post.

Hi Mackers,
Tramadol is lovely stuff isn’t it?
I don’t have secondaries to deal with but I did fall down some stairs and fall heavily onto concrete on my treatment side a few weeks ago and broke 4 ribs. Two of those were right under my mx wound and this made rads absolute agony even with the Tramadol. I am 7 weeks on from the fall and still in pain. It’s not quite as bad as before but I couldn’t manage without regular codydramol or cocodamol, and I still pop the occasional tramadol when it’s really bad.
My GP told me that it takes about 3 months for ribs to heal up completely and that it is incredibly painful. Knowing what you are feeling you have my sympathy!
I hope you can get your appt sorted soon and that it’s good news!

Mackers, my understanding is that doctors can differentiate between a hot spot caused by injury to one caused by cancer. But as you rightly say, if they suspect a hot-spot is cancer related, they can only confirm that by doing a biopsy.
Lemongrove
I’m sure they can, but I think I’m just a bit miffed as just had baseline bone scan…
Would hv probably been better if I had g+t in hand may hv been a bit more flexible!!
Feel better after everyones input, so that’s the main thing…
