Does anyone know how soon they will start me on Herceptin after rads? After last chemo I managed to have a week’s holiday and then rads started as soon as I returned. One lot of treatment starts and then another begins very quickly. I can now almost sleepwalk my way to hospital. I have had 5 sessions of rads with 20 more to follow, thank goodness I am not too far from the hospital and my husband can drop me off and pick me up afterwards. Thankfully the wait is not too long, unlike the hours waiting for chemo. I wonder if it will be the same, hours in hospital for Herceptin?
I started Herceptin a couple of days before I finished rads, but I think it varies. They try to make sure that it starts within a certain time from finishing chemo. I had a delay between chemo and rads because of complications so I suspect this is why I needed to start the Herceptin when I did. I had expected there to be a bit of a break. I had the first 2 in hospital, the first as an in patient because they need to keep an eye on you, the second as an outpatient and now I have them at home.
All the best

I started herceptin a couple of weeks after finishing rads. It is still quite a wait at the hospital, but not as bad as chemo. Us herceptin ladies usually get through the system more quickly - there is no wait for the doctor, and the pharmacy seems to be quicker on the uptake with the herceptin too. I am usually at the hospital for half a day rather than a whole day.
I started Herceptin while still on chemo. I had 4 Fec and 3 Tax and had Herceptin with the last 2 Tax. I’m now on Rads - had 7th (out of 15) today for which I waited 5 minutes, followed by Herceptin (also 7th) for which I waited an hour and a half plus a further half hour while they found a willing vein to stick the cannula in. I think every hospital is different.
