Fibroadenoma or phyllodes tumor - How can I tell the difference?

Hi!
I have been diagnosed with fibrodenoma which has grown from 1.7 cm to over 4 cm in 10 months - the doctors want to remove it. From internet research and speaking to cancercare UK it seems that a fibrodenoma is not necessary to remove surgically, but a phyllodes breast tumor is - my question is: what is the difference between these two conditions and how can I tell whether i have the first or the latter? Does anyone know?

Thank you!

Hi Norgegirl

I have posted for you below the links to two of BCC’s publications you may be interested in reading:

Phyllodes: breastcancercare.org.uk/content.php?page_id=640

Fibroadenoma: breastcancercare.org.uk/content.php?page_id=637

If you need to speak to someone in confidence about this then you can call BCC’s helpline. Lines to the helpline are open Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm and Saturdays 9am - 2pm (UK time), although this week the lines will not be open on Thursday, New Year’s Day. The number to call from overseas is (+44) 2076 20 0077

Hope this helps, kind regards,

Hi,

The above mentioned links have probably expired.
Would you please provide any other link(or informations) that would assist me in differentiating “fibroadenoma” and “Phyllodes tumor”

Thank You,

Abhishek
