Fibroadenoma worries

My 20 year old daughter has had a fibroadenoma for about a year and has been scanned every 4 months. Each time the lump was bigger and she was then referred to a consultant who has advised that it be removed. The lump is at the top of her breast and it will be removed via the Areola. She was told that there would probably be a large indentation.

We were shell-shocked and it wasn’t until we got home that we began to raise questions:

Has the pill (Rigevidon) been attributable to the lump growing and if so, why wasn’t she taken off it?

If necessary, will she be offered reconstructive surgery?

Are there no alternatives to surgery?

She went to her GP and mentioned the pill but they didn’t seem to think it was an issue. She is absolutely petrified and it is such an invasive procedure for a 20 year old. Can anyone who has had similar surgey offer any advice?

Hello,

I know this post is from a while ago, but I am in the same position and was wondering if you or your daughter could share any advice or insight?

I’m 20 and on Rigevdon, I have a fast-growing 4.5cm (currently) Fibroadenoma that I have been offered surgery for.

I’m very scared and find myself torn between being incredibly grateful my lump is benign and being upset at not knowing what to do next. All of my doctors have also told me the pill has nothing to do with my lump but googling says otherwise😞

Wishing you all the best

Hi Summerlulubianca,

My situation was a little bit different to yours and I can’t offer any help about the pill. Although, one consultant I saw on my first visit said no HRT for me. I’m in my mid 40’s and perimenopausal. That is when he thought I had cysts only. Maybe if you call the nurses on this helpline they will. They are so lovely.

I had to have surgery as the team had found an area of concern following me finding a lump. The biopsy on my lump was fine, but unfortunately, they couldn’t biopsy the area of concern, so recommended surgery.

I was petrified! But the surgery itself was absolutely fine. I had to have wires inserted before as the area of concern wasn’t a lump, which caused me the problems. Me and that mammogram machine do not get on!

I have a scar in a semi circle around the outside of my nipple. The surgeon has done such a fantastic job that 6 weeks on you can hardly notice it.

For me I have suffered with pain following surgery but I think it seems to be where the wires were inserted, also that I had lots of painful procedures in the months before the surgery and also mastitis. Lots of women do not experience too much pain after surgery.

All my biopsy results came back with either Fibroadenoma‘s or Complex Fibroadenoma‘s.

Only you can decide but living in pain isn’t very nice for you.

Good luck :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
